lol definitely. I haven't played many games of SC at all. Less than 150 probably. But Kar thinks I'm low diamond level. :eek:

The reason for that is because I'm constantly watching Starcraft and SC2 videos and streams. I've most definitely watched more Starcraft than I have played it. Name a tournament and I probably watched the stream live. :p

Playing will obviously help you get better faster, but watching the top level players actually teaches you good habits and gives you a better understanding of the game. Once I start practising more I think I can get into platinum if I tried hard enough and my mechanics start to improve.
 
yeah watching games on HuskyStarcraft and HDStarcraft is really helpful.

Also check out Day[9]'s video "plugging holes in gold/silver play"

About to start my placement games now! What should I expect? I played about 20 practice games and won about 15 of them. Will I be up against much better players now or roughly the same?
 
Currently going through the game again on hard and man, some of these achievements are really difficult. I'm more of a newb than a good player, so it doesn't help. But trying to destroy 4 hatcheries on Zero Hour is not easy.
 
I got my ass handed to me in the first 5 or so ranked matches by rushes. The 50 warmup games really lul you into a false sense of security. The zergling rush i can accept but the protoss canon rush had me loling and raging at the same time:D

Yeah, the warmup games really are a waste of time. Too slow and leaving you unprepared for the league games. Rushing does seem quite a viable tactic - I often catch people either busy teching up or aiming for a specific rush e.g. banshee's. Have caught many people out like this, mainly because I have got my initial build more or less nailed. Gone back to doing the challenges now.
 
Played a ladder game earlier, vs. Protoss, was on Scrap Station, which I already don't really like. He tries a sneaky proxy by getting a probe in my base, I had like nothing up as rax was still building so had to send all my scv's over. Due to the size of the base area on Scrap this took forever to send them to kill the probe and pylon and get back, but I figured what I lost mineral wise doing that is probably what he lost in 1 probe and 1 pylon.

So I grab a refinery, tech the barracks and get out 2 marine / 2 marauder and head them over to his base for some aggression. Only really had reapers up so could micro around that easily enough, was pumping out some more marines / marauders and sending them over whilst getting a factory and second rax up. My reinforcements for the 2 marines and marauders were almost at his base (looooong way to go on Scrap Station), then I get "our base is under attack"... I shift back to the base and there's 2 pre-charged Void Rays owning my HQ :/

Was miffed :p

Also, congrats Scott on Platinum! Seems a few of you guys are in there now.

Same, when it happened to me the first time I was so annoyed but couldn't help but lol at it :)
