**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

As a complete noob who hasn't played MP, from your posts it sounds like the MP is in a different speed.

Is it worth me upping the speed in SP to be ready?

I wouldn't up the speed for that reason alone. The style of play is different so I'd only increase if I personally felt it was too slow. Just to be sure to play fast on any skirmishes against AI.

Guess I'm going to skip the rest of my practice games, playing zerg you need to expand early and on some maps it locks you in to one base. Plus there's too much turtles out there

practice games tonight methinks. Not long left of the SP.
Had to re install last night due to no log in buttons once the game loads? I can see the planet and the ship (intro) but no option to log in....weird

Good luck man. I've found ZvT or ZvP outside the practice league to be difficult. If you don't expand quick they set-up camp by your ramp with the 4 gate/3 barrack rush and if you expand you simply can't get enough troops out to adequately defend. There must be a counter but it's totally alien to me.

I had great fun in the Beta in a few practice games. I was using Nydus Canals everywhere. So I'd literally float an overlord into the enemies base find a spot he couldn't see me and spawn a nydus worm. load up my entire army set all my spawn points to the nydus canal in my base and then wtfpqwn the enemy. I don't think they ever found the exits and I did all kinds of super micro I just cant to at full speed... I felt like Sen.

Shame I cant get away with that sort of shenanigans in the ladder :( Maybe when I'm better and I have an APM relitive to my Practice league APM (adjusted for speed of game)

According to the Terran and Protoss players on TL.net you should :
TL.net Non-Zerg Players said:
Expand the Creep like mad
Do Nydus Drops
Do Overlord Drops
Abuse Zergs mobility
Use flanking
Use Zerg more creatively
Make better use of Zergs Rapid Tech Swithing
All by 4min 56 Sec in the game:rolleyes:

Had an interesting game, just as my first 'toss spawned i was attacked by a zerg rush (which it looks like would have wiped me as they were picking off my spawns as they came). Fortunately my terran buddy came to the rescue.

5 mins later i had a decent force and steamrolled the other two armies with some (but not too much) help from the terran dude. I need to figure out how to survive that initial rush as my 'mid game' seems ok (from a noobs perspective). If it was a 1v1 he would have wiped me, but in turn if i had survived that initial rush without help i would have utterly decimated him shortly after. It seems the window between me building my basic structure and getting units onto the field is too big.

ffs, just had a match in my placement games where a guy was whooping me then quit. I can only assume this means i will end up being placed higher on the ladder than i should be? I won the previous two games because the other guys sucked. I can't help but feel i'm not learning much at the moment, either whooping guys because they suck or getting my ass handed to me without knowing what i did wrong. Ho hum, i've only played ~10 online games so far so there's still hope.

In the league, what is the bonus pool?

Its like a bonus you get for "Not playing the game" Not sure how quickly it accrues but basically its used to stop players who don't play the game 27/7/365 a means for not falling too far behind in ranking and score vs the players that do play non-stop.

You get a bit of your bonus pool every time you win.

Everyone should watch yesterdays episode of Day9's daily. Deals with low level players and the mentality you should have for improving. Really good episode, though Day9 is never bad. He's a seriously awesome dude. Unfortunately the VOD is broken and stops 2/3s of the way through, but blip.tv are working on getting it fixed. The first 2/3s are still worth watching though.

Aaa I wondered why it messed up when watching it lol!

Yea was very good and very handy and made a lot of sense. I do the old queue unit things and suffer from not being able to build other things as quick.
