How do you get time off work for interviews?

Just wondering how people manage to stay within their job and still go for an interview during the week.

Is it as simple as mentioning you're seeing the doctor/dentist/whatever? Surely it would cause problems if there is more than one stage in the interview process?

Book a day off - if asked explain you are expecting a delivery.

Just take annual leave.

If you're seriously looking, then you'll lose all your holiday when you quit anyway, so what's the difference?

 you won't lose it surely? Pro rata.

If you quit and you've got holiday to use, you can usually either leave a few days earlier in which case you get a nice rest before starting your next job, or you stay on in exchange for them paying you for the holiday you didn't take.

You get paid for it, or you quit early, but my point was that you can't take it with you to the next job or whatever so you may as well use it.

sicky, that way if you dont get the job you wont be annoyed at wasting a days hols :) - this is what i dont and worked well.

I've just been offered an interview for tomorrow afternoon - Ridiculously short notice. Not sure how to play it; with prob ask to reschedule for next week....

''just need a few hours of special time, can I make it up Boss,'' or dock me half a day, just summat I need to do.''
As an employer I always ask if the potential person sat in front of me has told their existing boss. ANYWAY they will find out when it comes to references.

Let the interviewer know that leave is a problem (and that it might be one of the reasons you are looking for employment elsewhere.) See if you can come to some arrangement of an out of hours interview or such.
