Hi guys , i just picked up a new 50" plasma TV today and the first thing i did was to hook it up to my pc via HDMI lead, i use the pc as a HTPC but i also have a monitor connected to it for normal browsing/pc gaming

this is where my problem lies,my old tv a samsung would display my "desktop" fine but with this LG im just getting "no signal" when i select the input (hdmi 2)

im kinda pulling my hair out here ive been messing and googling for 3 hours trying to fix it but no joy yet :(

hopefully some of you may know how to help me

so i have pc (obviously) with a ATI 4890 card,my 22" monitor connected via DVI has a max resolution of 1680 , my lg 50pk590 is connected to the card via hdmi max resolution 1920 (possible resolution conflict ?) my older samsung was only HD ready not full hd,1370 ? max resolution

im using windows 7 and cat 10.5a drivers and these are the win 7 settings i was using before changing tv's

any advise on fixing this ?

Have you tried setting it to extend displays. Oh and have you tried switching the tv on first. I have had issues with some things that depend on the order they are switched on (strange i know)

I have the same set up but my monitor is 24" 1920x1200 and a panasonic 50" plasma which is 1920x1080. I think the problem is that you are trying to 'clone' the same picture to a different resolution. I have to extend my desktop rather than 'duplicate these displays'. So when i want to watch a film on my plasma, which is set to secondary display, i either have to switch my plasma to the primary (which puts the desktop on my plasma) or i just leave it as secondary and drag the window over to my plasma from my 24" monitor. If you drag the window to your plasma you will see a slight pause as you go from one screen to the next as the window you are dragging across changes from one resolution to another. Hope this helps.

right so if i get a 1920x1080 monitor that problem could go away ? (any excuse to update :D)

do you change these settings in windows or driver CP ?

Change them in ati control panal (ccc). Go to desktop and displays and right click on the monitor or tv on the bottom of the screen and then click on configure, unless it has changed since driver version 10.4 which is what i am on.

Edit, by the look of that screen shot in your first post it looks like it changed but these settings should not be too hard to find.

Had same problem on so called 1080p sharp unit. It shows 1080p but turns out it only has 1024x768 pixels... How a manufacturer can get away with that is beyond me but there did lie the problem.

Andy

how did you fix that andrew ?

so ive been trying the suggestions this morning and still no worky

ive set both win 7 and CCC to extend desktop,i then set TV to primary and actually unplugged the monitor from the pc thus leaving the plasma and the only connected viewing source , i thought this would do the trick but nothing the tv still says no signal :(

i tried this same settings in CCC then in win 7 , each time disconnecting the monitor and even changing refresh rate , still nothing :(

EDIT: kingy how do you "drag" the desktop over pal ? i might try that if its possible

I am running the same LG plasma from my PC, it sounds like a resolution conflict I believe you cannot have native resolution with either and that it usually defaults to a resolution both monitors can handle, usually the lower of the two.

My thoughts were along the lines of a second 1080 PC monitor to replace the 1680+1050

For me extended was a waste of time as the TV is not visible from the main PC, I wanted to duplicate the screens.

If I extend my displays I have both at native resolutions, if I duplicate I only get 1680+1050 on both. I am using DVI to the PC monitor and HDMI 1.3 to the TV.

Have you tried using detect display under windows and did you apply settings?, or have you tried force TV detect under CCC?

Edit, is your HDMI lead working OK? What length is it?

I am afriad you cant drag the desktop over, you can only drag a window over i.e. if you start up an application such vlc player so it is a window (not full screen) you can move it from one screen to another. My p.c. sits right next to my tv and my monitor is about 2 feet awy from my tv so i can see both at the same time (just like having a 2 monitor set up). As someone alse mentioned if you clone at 2 different resolutions then the screen with the higher resolution will scale down to the resolution of the smaller screen and won't look right

0n 10.4 drivers my setting are:

Extended desktop (this is where the main problem lies if you duplicate your desktop onto another display with a different resolution)

Primary display = 24" monitor at 1920x1200 @ 60Hz
GPU scaling ON (scale image to full panel size)
Alternate DVI operational mode ON (don't know if this should be on or not)

Secondary display = Panasonic tv at 1920x1080 @ 60Hz
GPU scaling ON (scale image to full panel size)
Alternate DVI operational mode ON

Edit: i have just noticed CSA has 1080 posts on this forum which is very apt for this problem;)

thanks for the replies fellas , im not going to nor comment on them atm as ive had for too much beers after having a bbq and watching united beat chelsea but i will look deeper into you suggestions first thing in the morning

sorry for your avast problems sastusbulbas , maybe your getting a false positive there ? but the image is clean as far as im aware ?

the hdmi cable is 5m ,it worked fine with my samsung 37" only the day before i installed the 50" ,its rated at 1.37 according to the print on the cable

will try suggested setting tomorrow, and yes 1080 post seems quite apt :D

thanks for the info so far , much appreciated :)

sastusbulbas can you guide me thru any settings you use on the tv or in windows as i still cant get this to work, ive tried extended and duplicate but nothing will put any kind of picture on the TV , it just keeps showing up as "not connected"

ive got everything else working on the tv via hdmi, sky hd box and a home theater dvd but the pc just refuses to work :(

Hi,

I have just basic up to date W7 Ultimate 64bit with My Movies within Media Center, connected with a 5m HDMI cable to HDMI 2 labelled as Blue Ray (I could not use cinema zoom with it labelled PC).

All I did was connect the TV via HDMI, switch on the PC, and apply changes to the appearance configuration, IE two monitors with either as primary worked, extended or cloned, I didn't notice any updates take place though I was connected to the web when I switched on.

It also worked straight away with my new HTPC build and no monitor, I built that and the first connection I made to a display was the LG Plasma with an HDMI lead, my Mac also worked fine with VGA out.

Have you tried different HDMI sockets, and there are no settings which bypass the HDMI socket within your PC? Is your HDMI direct from the graphics card or connected to the graphics card via a DVI adaptor or from motherboard?

hi ,

yes ive already tried every other hdmi socket on the tv with no joy,the hdmi is direct from my graphics card, there are no settings to bypass the hdmi socket as far as im aware ,im using win 7 home 64bit

this has become really frustrating,im still not sure if the tv is the issue or the pc :(

Confused. Have you tested the independently of the monitor? I.e. no duplacation or extend etc. Does it work ok?

By the way, love you sig :D Mine would read:
1 HOUSE |3 CAR'S |1 WIFE |1 KID |3 DOG'S |0 TIME

It however should read

1 HOUSE |3 CARS |1 WIFE |1 KID |3 DOGS |0 TIME ;)

The issue here is that you're trying to clone your display to two monitors that run on a different resolution. To fix this issue, you will need to run your TV in extended desktop mode, which as the name suggests, extends your desktop to the additional monitor/TV.

You sure it isn't:
1 HOUSE |3 CARS' |1 WIFE |1 KID |3 DOGS' |0 TIME

lol.

Guessing you already got your answer CSA as several peeps have mentioned the res, and extend rather than duplicate. But test in isolation anyway.
