Tell me about the 6 series?

Truthfully, because I can't think of anything else I want :(

The plan was always a 911, with that out the window I'm just plain

Im still a bit lost about you and 911, what year was the one you tried?

Did you have the seat right down and back?

Try a tiptronic, they are fantastic, i wouldnt consider anything else and it gets rid of the left hand bias of the pedals.

I tried two, I looked at a 993 first which was a little snug. Then I looked at a 996 which caused my leg/hip to ache. I'm sure I had the seat all the way back but not sure about all the way down.

No, not really. Is this money burning a whole in your pocket?

If you need a new car, then sure, I get the point. But if you are keeping yours anyway whats the point unless there is something you really want, which its quite clear there isnt?

Are you just trying to out-bling your mates or something? :p
No I don't need a new car, but I want one. I did want to purchase it now but seeing as I can't get what I really want I'm looking to find something else that I do want.

I was always a fan of Nobles which is why I stupidly went to look at one without realising it was even more cramped then a 911, which is why I thought I'd look for something slightly bigger bringing me onto the 6 series.

If I like it and it is what I want then I don't see why I can't get one, but if there are cars out there which will be a better purchase and stimulate me in the same way then I will look at them too.

.

The pedals in the 993 are more offset than those in the 996.

Stop being a tit, get the 911, you'll fit and your legs will soon get used to the driving position.

Got to agree with that, i know a few people my size (6'4) ish that have no problem.

Get the seat right down and back on a 996 and try again.

I'm 6'1 and had zero issue with my GT3, loads of space all around, head, legs, wheel on knees, width and I had buckets. Very big car inside the 911, epic driving position and fantastic visibility. Took my mate 6'5 out in it on the first day I had it and he said he fitted perfectly....though was in the passenger side!

Also you had the worst seats for space in yours.

I never had a problem with a 993 a 996 or a 997.

I suppose if you got size 14 yetti feet the pedal bias might be a bit tight though.

I think I will give them another shot, maybe the 996 I tried had a different seat or something if you guys say you fit comfortably. Is there different seats? What should I look out for?

I have to say it was seriously uncomfortable though which is why I wrote the idea off but I suppose if anything deserves another chance it's my dream.

Also, yeah I do have size 14 shoes but I've never really seen them as big seeing as my brother has size 17! And he's shorter than me

3 different seat types. The normal ones, Adaptive Sports Seats (ASS) :p and the GT3 style buckets. You're unlikely to find many if any at all with the latter since they're a $13k option but you'll probably be able to find some adaptives if you look around.

I've owned 911's with all 3 types, my wife despises the sport adaptives but loves the normal ones and the GT3 style. Which is good since that's half the battle won for my 2011 GT3 hehe.

Spie used to have a 911C2 and a TT, he's not a short guy either, he never expressed any discomfort issues and we did a fair amount of driving together.

You should get yourself in a 997 if you can, they are the vastly superior car and they feel significantly larger inside than the 996. That said, I just drove my brother in law's '00 996C2 and I must admit, despite lacking almost 100hp from mine, it still felt fantastic to drive. It did however feel very dated inside compared with the 997.

OOps didnt know you had size 14s wasnt being rude :)

You will be fine with the normal seats im sure.

I often thought about a M6 but hear stories of massive running costs, "massive" is subjective though so no sure how bad in reality

Fantastically quick but fragile gearboxes and a thirst that sees sub 10mpg around town and sub 15mpg on a run is enough to put me off. That sort of fuel consumption is just unbearable if you use you car for 300 mile a day journeys. The cost is one thing, the constant stopping for fuel would really pee me off.

Big socks.
Type-o?? :p

Thanks, I will have a look around and see what I find and how it feels. Maybe I tried the wrong set up, I just assumed they'd all feel as cramped.

I would love too but the cost is significantly higher and out of my range unfortunately :( I'm looking at Turbos, not C2/4s

Hahaha nah it's fine, it wasn't an offensive remark :)

I heard the same which is why (other than initial purchase cost) I struck them off the list and looked at the 45.

I think I will definitely give the 911 another shot, fingers crossed :)

Well don't go into any of these cars with your eyes closed, they will all have higher than normal running costs. I'm not trying to be patronising but 911's can throw gigantic bills at you, particularly out of warranty. If you go down the 911 route (which is of course the best car at this point anyway) then get it inspected and have them check the RMS and IMS for leaks/seepage. Its been a while since I've lived in the UK now but over here an IMS failure will cost you $20k because its a new engine! Clutches on high mileage cars will be on their way out too, anything over 40k and you need to just be aware that it could be a possibility. Mine went at 40k but that was with some very aggressive track driving, some go at 20-30k, yet I have friends at 75-80k with the stock clutch still. I just had mine done at a cost of almost $3k....

There are various maintenance plans available now to combat the ims issue.

Hartech/Sports and Classic etc.

Sod the RMS let it leak till you change the clutch.

Terrible colour trim, but there are 997's about for your budget just about.

Dont know if a higher mileage 997 is better for you than a mint 996 is up to you.

Get a specialist report done on the car ala Peter Morgan whatever you buy, best 400 quid you can spend.

That's a good deal but it is a very early 997, you're far more likely to deal with an IMS failure on that than an 06 or onwards. Despite it being an '04 it is actually an MY05 and as such its the transition car from the 996, it even has a hybrid ECU which was changed in 06.

The saving grace is that it has a fair amount of mileage on it, these cars tend to last longer when driven, it's often the garage queens that spit out the gigantic bills.
