Last years memory prices

About May or June last year I built a new system and got 4GB of OCZ DDR2 for £35... but since then the RAM prices have about tripled... just curious if anyone knows what caused the prices to be so low last year, and to rise again?

it happens all the time, i think the makers of the stuff limit supplys which push prices up so they can make more profit. i think when sales slow down the market gets flooded with more memory so prices come down for more sales.

RAM is just a very volatile product, it's been the same for many many years.

Fair enough. Suppose we should be glad it's only RAM this often happens to. I'd hate to see the gulftown's triple in price.

i paid 70ish for 6gb of tri-channel ddr3 ocz last year, prices more than doubled last time i looked.
and i paid 100 for 8gig (2x4gb) of ddr3 ocz recently (ok i got a corker of a steal during a price glitch )

you just gotta look around and catch it at the right time!

I hate way RAM is priced, its so volatile! I paid about £115 for 6gb DDR3 OCZ gold about 9 months ago. I know I brought it at a bad time but hey...if you need it you need it!

Speaking of deals I've seen 6GB DDR3 Kingston RAM 1600 for £46.54....although some peoples purchases werent honoured!

An article on a tech site stated that the price is likely to increase again as changes in manufacturing die size mean demand will exceed supplies.

When i first specced up my i7 rig last year, the ocz reaper c7 tri channel kit was £99.99, a few weeks later it shot upto £149.99, bought it anyway as ive always had good results and no issues with the reaper kits

I bought the Patriot Viper last for £75 ~ did have the OCZ gold but 2 lots of failures gave up!

Heard of lots of issues with the gold tri channel kits RJC, the only ocz kits ive used have been the platinum and reaper's on s775 and x58, luckily no issues, but the golds do seem to be more problematic.
