Mafia 2 Demo - No Timer Patch

Since this modifies Steam files isn't there a chance of VAC kicking in and possible getting the account banned?

No, it isn't affecting Steam files, only Mafia 2 files. Mafia 2 isn't part of VAC or Steamworks, so it should be fine. Plus, its single player.
 
Surely this constitutes as warez, because you're effectively letting people play the game indefinitely for free without a time limit?

All the timer patch does it mean that you don't have to exit the game and then load it back up if you wish to keep playing.

A demo which lets you keep playing when you exit the game? Surely that can't be right, I thought it was like Just cause 2 where you get a set amount of time to play.

What a silly demo, why would any dev give their game for free when all people need to do it reopen it after 10 minutes.
 
Tbh, you could just get killed by shooting everyone after 9 mins, that restarts it as well.
 
tried it but it didn't work for me....just exit out of the game when i tried to start it.
oh well back to a full speed head on collision when i want the time extending.

You only get a tiny part of the map to play in
 
Yeah doesn't take much effort to hex edit the file yourself and no worries about the file possibly being infected.

As for "stealing" and all that... the demo is a walled garden that doesn't let you get to other parts of the map anyhow, theres no career ladder, no saving, most of the fullgame features not required for the one mission have been removed all it does is save you restarting every 10 minutes... whoever put the timer in, in the first place was a bit "special".

Yup, thats what I did. Done for both myself and my mate and it works great. ;)

Im gonna say its not too bad for a 2.5 year old stock 4850.
 
There was a post about this on the steam forum from a dev, asking people kindly not to do it, and finishing with

"Plus, you wouldn't want to get banned, would you?"

Possible scaremongering, but I'm happy just to wait until the full game is out.
