Your ultimate gaming mouse

I would like a wired/wireless Deathadder with an infrared sensor.

Basically, the Mamba but without the crappy laser sensor.

I say crappy because I bought a Razer Imperator last month and had to send it back because the laser was terrible (when I picked the mouse off the desk it would move the cursor down and to the right by an inch!).

Fell into the same trap. I always wondered why I suck at FPS now and I think you've just nailed it. Well that and age/reflexes, but mostly the mouse :)

I was in PC World and noticed a gaming section. It's not just mice, keyboards are similar. It's like this is the gear professionals buy. A keyboard that looked no better than my £10 Microsoft curve for £70 and I could not believe it. A logitech keyboard with a screen and buttons for over £120.

Good optical mice are better for games now than ball mice. You just have to get one with good tracking, none of this gimmicky 20000dpi nonsense. You also need to turn off every single bit of mouse acceleration in windows or your aim will never be consistent.

Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical
Microsoft Intellimouse Optical 1.1
Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0
Logitech MX518
Razer Deathadder 3G

Are regarded as the best mice for FPS players that the majority of the pros use. You just have to turn off mouse acceleration though. I can't believe how much it helped my aim in FPS games.

i dont think anything has been proven to be better than an mx518, has it? at least not from an accuracy point of view. however its all a bit irrelivant now anyway as long as you have a mouse that can track reasonably well. Ie, my g9 performance 'worse' than my 518 in a proper mouse tracking test but i prefer it for gaming because it's smaller and heavier.

If you want the best tracking mouse - mx518. if you want the best mouse....that depends. But my g9 is damn good.

that MikeK mouse fix, or whatever his name was, sent my accurace through the roof.

Yeah, I used a similar one: CPL mousefix

Or if you're playing source games, add these to your game's launch options:

-noforcemparms -noforcemspd -noforcemaccel

I'm just an average player, not very good at any FPS games but this helped so much I couldn't believe I went so long using mouse acceleration. :p

james, the MX518 has almost flawless tracking but it has mouse correction that can't be turned off unfortunately. The Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical has flawless tracking and no mouse correction, so it's technically the perfect mouse but there's not really much difference. I prefer the MX518.

I love my DeathAdder - never had an MX518 and rather intrigued going by the responses so far.

EDIT: Oooo 8 buttons! That's the only gripe with my DeathAdder when I'm playing games that require a stupid number of key bindings.

That's because your hand doesn't come perfectly up.

Just a point about the MX-518. It's a good mouse, but maybe not suitable for smaller hands as it's quite big.
Personally, I'd say go and try some to see what fits best for you and stick with it.

Logitech G5 or G500, had a G5 and it was fantastic, when it broke i got the G500 as an rma replacement, another great mouse.

The best mouse i have used was probably the MS intellimouse 3. This was years ago it just fit my hand perfectly. I owned 2 of these, the feet had an issue of wearing down on me. I was an extreme gamer though interms of hours played.

After the 2nd one died about 5 years ago i bought a Razer Copperhead. Still using it now. It took me a while to get used to the flat profile but the build quality is excellent, the teflon (i think) feet have not worn down at all. The contact quality on the left mouse click is starting to degrade (i noticed this on starcraft trying to drag select units) so i might have to get something new myself.

roccat kone with a logitech performance mx wheel (hyper scroll, wont break)
and wireless,

so really...

a logitech performance mx.
