Why do you drink?

Its fun I guess, but they were very much back in my student days. Now I just drink to be merry and not to great excess. If I go down the pub on a Friday night then I will arrive around 10, leave about 12 and will have had 4-5 pints only and feel fine the next day.

drink to have more fun, loosen up a bit.
drink to lose yourself after a bad day/week
bit of liquid bravery :)

dont need to get drunk to have a laugh though
if your personality needs drink to work you need a new personality

I Dont like the taste of most alchole i have tried.

I will probaly drink 1 pint (which will last quite awhile) just to relaxe a bit in social events, but i'll never drink just to get drunk/impress friends.

I do find that i like some vodkas though.

I honestly have no idea. I'm sitting here wondering what on earth I spent the best part of £50 for. It wasn't even a good night.

Considering I spent £30 which has provided me 2 weeks of entertainment it seems like a big conn.

Thank you for reminding me of Modern Drunkard Magazine, I've not read it for ages but a mighty fine read it remains and Frank Kelly Rich as always is a poet of sorts.

I drink because I like the taste, to some degree I like the effects but principally because going out drinking remains one of the best ways I know of catching up with my friends.

After about five drinks the monkey will start rattling the cage. Let him out.

Examine his fine smile. This is the giddy you that is so charming with the ladies at the bar. Note the wily gleam in his eyes. This is the happy-go-lucky sport that comes up with wholly improbable, yet wildly optimistic schemes while loaded. Sense his light heart. This is the jovial soul that will laugh at the worst bar joke ever told.

Doesn’t seem like such a bad guy at all, does he? Introduce yourself. Buy him a drink. Let him buy you a drink. Anyone who buys you a drink can’t be all bad, right?

It is now that you will recognize the monkey for who he truly is: he is you without social constraints. A slave unchained. He is you without the worry of what other people think. He is what you want to be, not what your parents, friends, lover, boss and God want you to be.

Good post and probably some truth in it as well.

I never get hammered simply because I don't want to spend ridiculous amount of money just for 1 night... I'd spend probably £50 max on alcohol...

If I spent £50 on alcohol I'd be dead, 4 Newcastle Browns would be my limit coming to a total of around £12.
This is what makes me laugh, if you're spending £50 on alcohol you must be putting some away so therefore fit into the category of the OP (even though you may not be hammered).

Mostly because, well boredom really.

My life has just turned into, work Monday - Friday. Absolutey sozzeled every Friday and Saturday hungover on the Sunday and the odd occasion of being drunk on a week day.

I enjoy the feeling of being tipsy.

I spent from the ages of 17-22 getting hammered very often, pub 5-nights a week, spent a lot of money, maybe 50+ pints a week, you know the drill.

Now i'm 25 (26 in Oct), the hangovers are hidious, absolutely nothing like they were years ago. A big night out means a full day of hangover, and i don't like that!

Now i take things a lot more slowly, i still drink, as i enjoy it, but i know what i really like and enjoy, and stick to it.

I go to the pub on a thursday, but only maybe have 2-3 pints. At the weekends maybe 4-5 if i'm out.

A big night out will mean maybe 10-12 pints, but this is done only once every few months now!
