Hanns.G HZ281HPB 27.5" Widescreen LCD Monitor

Hello Guys

Yet another user has been convinced to purchase on of these bad boys but I need help with a few things before I do and I hope you can solve my worries!

Basically I have limited space/room on my desk for a monitor this big and I understand that this Monitor is VESA compliant meaning I can wallmount it.

Wondering 2 things:
1. Is this Monitor fairly heavy as im living in a loft-conversion with "weak" walls
2. Could anyone link me a VESA bracket which would make the Monitor as flat to the wall as possible?

Strange request I know but im only young and need advice :)

There are several ways in which you could resolve your problem, the easiest being a table clamp VESA mount.

for flat you need page 3

Yeah im kinda looking for flat against the wall... still dont know what MM the bracket size should be.



One more thing (I Promise!):

Could someone please measure the Width/Depth/Height of the monitor WITHOUT the stand.. so just the screen and its edges as im trying to consider size/space etc... sorry to be a pain. :)

Mines wall mounted on a swing bracket (works the same way that the desk mounted one above does) so i will measure it for you.

Height = 444mm
Width = 651mm
Depth = 86mm
 
I bought one well, the older model here about 2 years ago ish. Last week I started getting (intermittently) red sparklies on screen. At first I thought it was GPU related, but no, they were fine on other monitors. Hats off to OcUK as I sent a webnote today and requested my original purchase inv for warranty and it was sent within an hour!

Hanns-g Tech support is also good. They have a repair tech out to me tomorrow to swap the monitor for a new one. Result all round I think there.

But then again if you the 6 pages on this forum saying how good the Hanns-G is.. surely that makes up your mind? :P
 
Yeah, it really should. I'm just worried of getting a bad one :p But then again, it can happen with any monitor! Everyone here says it's good, but the Iiyama is also meant to be good. It's this one.
 
What is the viewing angle like on this monitor? I would like one as more of a TV than a monitor (my eyes couldn't handle it as a monitor) Also, has anybody experienced any buzzing/humming noises from the monitor?

The viewing angles don't appear to be any better or worse than some of the other cheap LCD panels I've seen. i.e. If you're not sitting directly in front of it then you will notice some degradation of picture quality when viewing from an angle.

As for buzzing and humming, mine is totally silent.
 
This thread keeps drawing me back in to the Hanns. G! As long as no one here has had any problem with the newest version (anyone who has had problems seems to have the old version) then I will probably go for this one.

But then again...the Iiyama keeps tempting me. I'm not sure why to be honest. You upgraded from an SM226BW didn't you wapcatlet? Is it just as good? Sorry to ask again, just really wan't to make sure I make the right decision :p

Yes I did upgrade from a 226BW. I confess that I haven't compared the two monitors side-by-side but my perception is that, after spending 15 minutes tweaking the settings, the Hanns G looks just as good as my old Sammy.

I understand your concerns about making the right decision. I read dozens of monitor reviews over 2 or 3 weeks and in the end it came down to a choice between the Iiyama B2712 and the Hanns G. I chose the latter because of the higher resolution and some good advice/reviews in this thread. BigBruiserAl was particularly helpful.

My only criticism of this monitor is that it doesn't appear to do 1:1 pixel mapping when I hook it up to my PS3. Instead of showing black bars at the top and bottom it stretches the 1080 display to fit the 1200 pixels of the monitor which obviously means that the images are stretched. Apparently some people don't mind this but I don't like it so now I use my PS3 on my 40" Samsung TV instead.

Based on their reviews the Iiyama would appear to be a better buy. However, I have not seen any of the "reverse ghosting" issues that they claim to have encountered on the Hanns G. Also, I've not seen any mention of that problem in this thread either. I have also read comments in other hardware forums which suggest that DigitalVersus reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt.

To sum up...
I would be very surprised if you weren't happy with this monitor. I have no regrets whatsoever, in spite of the issue with the PS3.

That's great thanks wapcatlet :) What kind of games do you play out of interest? Just for a comparison to what I play. Good to know that you haven't noticed any ghosting though :) I was looking for that review site for ages! Just couldn't remember the name! I think I will bite the bullet and go for the Hanns. G once I have the money :)

I will post back here once I get the actual monitor :p I think this is my final decision :p

Edit: One final thing, what is it like for watching movies on? I noticed that review said it was bad for movies, but no one in here has said it is really bad. Damn monitors, making life difficult!

I am playing Age of Conan, Star Trek Online, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Supreme Commander 2 at the moment. They all look fantastic.
As for movies... well they look okay to me but you have to bear in mind that it's a monitor, not a tv. A movie will never look as good on a monitor as it does on a decent tv. A tv has all of that clever picture-processing circuitry whereas a monitor just shows the picture "raw". I've not actually sat and watched an entire movie on it but I've watched a few hi-def movie trailers (full screen) and they looked okay to me.
