can you fall to sleep lay on your back?

after trying since the start of the month, it is apparent that i can't. being unemployed leaves time for great experiments such as this, i have been staying up late to the point where i should be able to drop off with ease but if i try and fall to sleep lay on my back, i just cant and i try for about an hour but if i lay on my side, it's lights out!

Ya know, I didn't really pay this much thought, but now that I have (oww!) I am exactly the same! I can't fall asleep when lying on my back, unless I am REALLY knackered, in which case I just kinda drift off. I have been told I make some kind of dry-mouthed Darth-Vader-esque breathing through my mouth when I lie on my back, and drool like a hungry Labrador when lying in any other position.

****ing women, eh! Never satisfied.

Rather interesting to see that you, too, resorted to random experiments whilst unemployed. I, too, was unemployed for a brief period, and I tried some interesting experiments, such as seeing if lying on your arm until it falls asleep and then trying to tug on the trouser snake feels like someone else is doing it. Having never needed to do this particular "method" I thought why not give it a shot.

It didn't feel like someone else, in fact, such was the lack of control over my numb arm that it just ended up flailing around and whacked me on the mouth, cutting my lip on my teeth.

Not pleasant. I am therefore calling shenanigans on the whole thing!

can't lie on my back, back gets sore
lie on side, as if i lie on my front turning my head makes neck sore
same thing with benchpressing, i have to have my feet on the bench up at my arse instead of spread down to floor
bad posture i guess :(

Never fall asleep on my back, similarly I can't fall asleep in chairs either. Its a pain when on a long haul flight all you want to do is sleep but you can't because you can't lie on your front.

This!

My gf can fall asleep ANYWHERE, she so lucky!

I can't sleep in anything that moves. I have to sleep on back or side. Can't sleep on front unless it is a mid day nap or lay in sleep lol.

I normally sleep with one arm above my head and one of my legs up so i'm kinda like a horizontal ballerina lol.

Fall asleep only on side or front.
Wake up on side nearly always.

Tried but could never sleep on my back.

My usual posture is on the side, one leg stretched ( the one on the top) one tilted at my knee 135 deg ( the bottom leg) and a little to the front. Bottom arm under my head or under my pillow. Top arm/hand, flat on the mattress.

But with the bottom arm under my pillow or leaning my head on it. And the legs other way around, the leg on the bottom tilted rather than the top one.

I can only sleep on my sides, which is highly inconvenient with this new tattoo I'm sporting. Have to wait for it to heal which includes putting cream on it overnight and avoiding friction.

I wish I could sleep on my stomach...I find it difficult to breath (I'm not a fatty either!) and have no way to position my head. It feels comfy though.

I usually sleep on my back on warmer nights and the sheets are nice and cooool or on my side on the colder nights!

cant sleep on my back, I prefer to sleep on my left side face to a wall. I have no idea why its always been this way. generally I don't sleep well and have'nt done since I was a child.
But im gonna give this sleeping on my back thing a go, it could go on the list of 'one of the things to do before you die' kind of tasks.

That's me! Description in the pic is 100% accurate as well :D
Sometimes I have my top leg over the covers as well, as if i'm hugging the duvet.
I don't understand how anyone can fall asleep on their front.. won't you get a bad neck, or simply suffocate yourself?

I can sleep on my back and my side as well. Don't think I've slept on my front in years, but then it's supposed to be the worst of the positions you can lie in.

I had to spend a month sitting up to sleep when I broke my arm once and that was no fun.
