*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

Up until recently Antec's EarthWatts were made by Seasonic. Sounds like you just got a bad batch. I've got an EarthWatts 380w powering a Radeon 4850 Pentium dual-core rig with no issues.

Not had any issues with mine until now, but I am powering a Q6600, 2 hard drives, two optical drives, a sound card and an overclocked GTX 460, so maybe I'm running it a bit close to the max wattage.

I plan to get a new PSU at some point to give me some more headroom for upgrades later, and also have modular wiring so my PC's insides don't look like an explosion in a spaghetti factory.

Going back to my problem I reckon the issue was something to do with power - don't know if it's a dodgy connection or just not enough from the PSU - because it looked like the card was deliberately clocking itself down to 50% as though it was going into a limited power mode.

So whats the best 460 to go for with SLI in mind temp wise

looking to order one tomorrow and will get a 2nd for SLI in around 4 weeks

currently leaning towards the Asus "DirectCu"

I think you're pushing luck, running that lot with a cheapo 500W PSU. Get yourself the one in my spec, great PSU.

Honestly I'd wait a little while until the actual game comes out. Reading the hardware requirements and benchmarking threads on bluegartr shows the benchmarks are all over atm and the 460 does not perfom well at all (sub 5830).

Of course this could well just be due to a lack of maturity in drivers but you're in no rush. Still got til the 22nd of September to see what performs best with the game for the best price. At least that's what I'm gonna do.

Also you're gonna have little trouble running it until you make a decision as my 8800GT barely struggled with the alpha or beta.

Cheers for that reply...I'm quite annoyed I didn't get into beta, that's the one MMORPG I would have loved a beta invite for! I'll wait until September I guess then and keep an eye on the forums / cards that come out :) Cheers.

Do not get that msi cyclone unless your board is 16x 8x 8x, if you have to put them in the pcie 2.0 slots next to eachother the top one will bake! I did and with an overclock of 810mhz i it was going so high temps wise!! 87c after 20 min gaming and man that top fan got loud. anyways i moved it to the bottom slot and now all is awesome, they are both clocked at 850mhz and have yet to see them go above 70c in gaming, they are also still very quiet. So really it depends on your board, but idealy for sli you want an external exhaust card, which in general is louder having to work harder to remove the air. Many factors go into choosing the right card, so it is hard for their to be one answer.

I just went ahead and ordered two MSI 1 Gb ones =D

I went with those because the cooler looks great, and the I prefer the Black PCB to the Gigabytes blue one. I found them for £187 each, the gigabytes were £176, but I still wanted the MSIs.

Gonna sell my 5770s while they still cost the same brand new as I what I originally paid for mine, normally just undercutting the brand new prices by a tenner works :).

Strange it does that...

Mine's at 850/1700/4200 @ 1.087V from the second it hits windows and it's never had a problem.

im with you, ive tested numerous cards and they all seem to take the jump no problems.. going from 715mhz straight to 850. but i did adjust up the milivolts at the same time... not just MHZ rise on its own.

HOWEVER, if i hit the RESET button on afterburner after an 800/850 oc, then i get a bsod and a reset.

thats a pair of palit 2GB 460GTX sonics installed

total draw of whole system under load is 460Watts measured at wall socket. 180Watts idling

now time to get rid of old cards 8400GS, 8800GT and 280GTX (sniff love the 280gtx be sad to see it go)

happy camper here with them so far :)

Delta's build quality was actually an improvement on Seasonic's, so I think you got a bad batch. :)
For sure, it should've failed QC, as it was DOA.

I needed the PC up that same day, so got a Corsair from a local shop in a hurry in the end.

Got my Gigabyte GTX460 1Gb OC this morning. To be honest, I was very disappointed with it’s performance. I’ve upgraded from a 8800GTS 640Mb OC2. I’ve only run the “X3 - Terran Conflict” benchmark so far and I wasn’t impressed. I’ve gone from an average frame rate of 57.5fps to 62.5fps.

The only good point about the GTX460 is that it’s almost silent. Much quieter than my old 8800GTS and a lot shorter.
