This has been on the news a lot today, nobody deserves to be attacked obviously, but a World War II veteran who had just been to the shops is just... :(

The family of a 90-year-old World War II veteran who died after being violently robbed in his home have appealed for help to catch his killer.

Geoffrey Bacon was ambushed at the doorstep of his flat in Camberwell, south London, on 26 April.

The widower suffered a broken hip as his attacker ransacked his home, where he had lived for 40 years, and escaped with just £40 and his bus pass.

Mr Bacon spent 11 weeks in hospital recovering before dying on 5 August.

The pensioner was a well-known and liked character in the area who once worked as a driver for US General Dwight Eisenhower.

I hope they catch the scumbag that did this.

Can't express how angry this makes me. If they catch the bloke, he'll probably get community service - hopefully his name will be published so he can be "sorted out".

I just don't understand the mentality of some people.

Hopefully the assailant will be caught and our justice system doesn't make a hash of his punishment.

Saw this on the news earlier and it’s very sad. The person who perpetrated this crime is an animal. I hope they catch him but alas we don’t have any punishments to fit his crime.

What a cowardly thing to do :o
I mean, If its money hes after, take the money and leave the poor old man alone, he probably can't even walk, nevermind a chance to fight off the criminal(s) ffs.

An eye for an eye? eh?

I'm not defending what he did, but if you were to hurt him, you're just as bad as him.

It's sad that things like this happen.

Pay the Thai Government to look after him as a prisoner IMO. Cheaper than doing it here and he'll have a much more suitable standard of living considering his crime.

It's not sad, it's unacceptable.

Sigh... It was probably one of those gangsta wannabie tools as well.... I wish this new government would bring back the death penalty. Such "people" are beyond redemption and do not deserve mercy or "rehabilitation". I bet the guy, if caught, gets a pittence of a sentence. Life, but out after a few years (probs not even a decade). Sick of this equal rights, fairness ******** tbh. It goes too far, the idea is nice but the world is not fair. Everyone is not equal, fact. There are also those who do not deserve to be treated as equals.

Wow the vet certainly had a long and eventfull life! Driver for Eisenhower ww2 Vet as it is.

I hate how the generation of idiots these days **** on our history with no regard.

What's wrong with an eye for an eye? It would teach people a valuable lesson to not do on to others what they don't want to be done to them...

His being a war veteran is irrelevant to the story and is just an appeal to emotion. I doubt any of us would say that attacking a non-war veteran was any better.

My point being - it's disgusting whoever it happens to. We shouldn't need to be told it was a war veteran to be disgusted by it.
