I was saying neither.

However, being NCAP 5* for adult passenger safety, I would imagine a new Corsa would be a lot safer than anything ford made around that era.

What were you saying then?

Yeah safety has come on massively in the last few years. I'd rather be in a 2009 Corsa than a 1990 7 Series.

It sometimes struggles to even reach the speed limit. And I'm not talking about NSL. :o :p

Heh, I remember from the main thread on it that it tops out around 40 due to the gearing doesnt it? :D

Hence why it'd be a supreme achievement to die in a twisted fireball of death in that thing. :p

Technically, the gearing would allow it to get a lot faster than a normal beetle, because of the huge rear wheels.

Lack of power is the problem. It can reach motorway speeds just about on flat ground, unladen. If I have the teardrop caravan on back, I can be down to second gear on a hill.

All this "show some respect" crap makes me laugh. If they guy wasn't driving like a t*** he wouldn't be dead, simple as that. Doesn't deserve any respect whatsoever. Good riddance.

Perhaps you'd be right... If it weren't for the circumstances surrounding the accident.

I don't see how anyone can calm that it was his fault if somebody did indeed glue nails to the road?

Is it confirmed glued nails did cause it? That is ****** doing that anyway, buying tyres is my pet hate, in London you never get to kill a tyre by wear, its always a ****ing screw stuck in it.

From reading the thread, the idea that it was a screw that caused it seems to have disappeared, faulty brakes are now being suggested, in between bouts of name calling and chav tributes.

Dont really know why people do that, if you cant say sorry for the loss just say nothing.

Nails or not, those saying he deserved it because he was street racing are simply short sighted IMO.

Someone here has already said that the road is dead and unused, therefore they were putting no one else in danger. There is very little difference between having a blast up an unused road or doing it at a dragstrip.

Accidents happen all the time, but this illusion that the speed limit automatically indemnifies you from all risks on the road is the reason why there are so many brain-dead drivers on our roads today.

If this was a 40 year old man in his 1.8 Ford Focus, the discussion would be about the nails that were supposedly glued to the road.

looks like they were held in palce with expanding foam. a pidgeon could have flown in and plucked that out the ground if it was held down by expanding foam
