Hello

I was wondering if you would like all your games on steam? instead of installing from a disc as I certainly would..

Do you think Steam will become mainstream and get bigger and cater more titles than it already does?

What things don't you like?

What things do you want to see from Steam?

Steam annoys me. I often get games in Steam then find out they don't patch properly - or after I subscribe I have to download a seperate localised client anyway. It's just an epic mess.

So I'd prefer for games NOT to be in Steam - except for Valve games which seem okay.

Plus Steam is just a ninja DRM system anyway.

I quite like steam, purely for the interface and the fact I can play on any PC. Its very useful.

Currently rebuying previously owned retail games when they come up in the sales and have decided that any new games will be bought via Steam only and the only retail games I will buy are ones that ship with Steamworks.

All games on one large HDD and OS on an SSD means never having to reinstall games after a format. Steam also means never having to look for patches and the bonus of Steam Cloud games keeping my saves online so I don't have to back them up.

So yes.

Yeah I would love to have all my games on steam as its so more convenient managing all your games on a single account. I think Steam is getting bigger by the day and I would love to see all PC games getting sold and supported on Steam as it updates/patches the games for you and also has a good social aspect to it.

The only thing I don't like is the IM Chat as its not very stable and I would like to see it work better for example I think Xfire is a great IM Chat for gamers.

The things I want to see from Steam are:

All games getting sold and supported by Steam.
Better IM Chat
More advanced Cheating detection
Better account security (seeing it has all our games in a single account)

I had a think about this the other day and was wondering if anyone could enlighten me:

Let's say Valve go bust and can no longer afford the Steam servers/game hosting/whatever the term is. What would happen now that all the users can no longer download games that they had bought?

When you buy a game from steam it's for life correct? Isn't that a bit unrealistic however as a company can not guarentee it will stay in business for ever.

I may just be an idiot though. :p

Yeah, that'd be great, but a portion of my collection (timeless classics like Deus Ex, Fallout 1 & 2, Half-Life, etc.) I still gotta have physical media for, mainly because having the original boxes and all for those makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. :D

What happens if steam ever goes belly up? You would lose your games on demand, unless already on your hard-drive. Nightmare scenario, but possible...

Buy all means you're buying a licence for a copy of the game, such as GTA IV where you get given a CD key. As you have your own CD key surely you should be fine to download a copy of the game as you have a licence to play it. Other games like Counter Strike and Half Life might be a different matter but you can get physical copies of these, obviously just be at a lack of updates.

But ultimate answer, yes, I'd love to have all my games on steam and have started importing them into the library shame you can set your own larger pics.

If Valve went bust I'm fairly sure Steam would be safe.

It can be separated from Valve the games developers and sold on. It must operate on a profit otherwise its a pointless business venture.

But if they went down, you would not be able to play any Steam works games as you need to log into steam to play them.

+1

What happens if EA goes belly up? same thing...

no,steam are overpriced.

Sometimes Steam is more expensive than buying elsewhere. They do have some great offers though.

Team Fortress 2 for £2.50 was excellent. :) What about all those daily deals around Christmas 2009. There was a years worth of gaming to had extremely cheaply there!
