Your biggest ever let down game... EVER!

UT3 - Great engine, terrible art direction and FPS shooters have moved on.

Such a shame since I've played the Unreal series since day one.

Yeah i hear that.

Also I'll throw in the new MoH, even though its not out yet. I mean wth - a CoD4 clone?

edit: and all cnc after generals.... cause they used the exact same engine, which was completely out of date once CoH came along.

UT3 (had high hopes for this game but the developers had a momentary lapse of reason and made it rubbish)

Far Cry 2 (Just another brick in the wall tbh. Every mission was pretty much the same and got repetitive very quicky)

:P

I think Champions Online, because I genuinely thought they couldn't screw it up.

I learnt years and years and years ago that almost everything in life is better if you don't build it up so I don't read reviews, previews or game news, its not hard to work out what games will be good/bad without reading any specifics.

Spore was truly crap, but from the day they started really talking it up and doing presentations infront of crowds years before release of how awesome your animals would be, I assumed it would be complete crap because EVERY SINGLE GAME thats ever tried to do way more than every game before it, has failed miserably.

So spore wasn't a let down because I expected a game that reached so far it would end up massively scaled back, in an unplanned way and be crap.

Champions online though, how, how how? City Of Heroes is already pretty awesome but very dated and quite small for a MMO these days. I thought, yes, City of Heroes 2(maybe incorrectly), but it seemed obvious they knew what these guys wanted, same thing, new story, new character options, updated graphics engine, bigger and better. But they just took a good game idea and a great predecessor, and did literally everything wrong in the entire game.

Star Trek Online from the second I got in the open beta for Champions online, I knew was going to be crap so didn't get let down their either.

Other than that, Soldier of Fortune 3, biggest pile of crap ever, though again it wasn't surprising, SOF2 was one of the best MP games around for years, and decent/fun SP aswell. As soon as it got moved to the budget studio with no money and no manpower it was always going to suck hard.

Call of Duty 2 : When they Introduced Console porting of CoD Games to PC where you didn't even need to aim properly to get kills. CoD series has been the same ever since. They come nowhere near the Realistic Feel CoD1 had. Where you actually had to use some skill to aim on somebody and kill them, Not spray the entire side of a building and kill someone due to the Huge Hitboxes that have been introduced since the Console Porting of the CoD games.

Dawn of War 2: Same reason as said before, very small squads, didn't feel like there was much going on most of the time due to the lack of units.
Last stand was not a bad DLC though.

James Pond 2: codename robocod! - on the mega drive

They had a pinball game I wanted in the 2nd hand shop. Saved all my pennies up to go buy it and it was gone. Spent aaages in the shop trying to select another - and left with James Pond 2! Utter tripe. That was my first lesson wasting my money!

Definetly the biggest gaming let down for me - ever.

Thread is about let downs, rather than just plain bad, so:

Deus Ex 2: Invisible War has got to be very high on my list;

I'd also add Eve Online, it had potential, and after I'd played for 4-5 years, become very active in community and also in player support the killing blow was the deferment of proper system control for yet another year. Crushed me, we'd played beyond the means of the same, and they coded so slowly and badly then that there was no end in sight. I flew away very very let down.

Need for speed undercover - 40 quid for 4 hours gameplay, no thats just blatant theft EA!
Need for speed world - painful trash, most racers are trash, if i wanted to play burnout i'd play burnout,
resident evil 5, urgh just urgh lol

I thought quake 4 was a reasonable update of qua3, not really a patch on the original but not too bad an update.

That reminds me, I thought Quake 4 was terrible. Both the sp and mp experience to me, was a massive step down from the previous games. I couldn't believe what I was playing when I loaded it up. It was like a rehash of Doom 3. It felt lazy and uninspired. Very disappointing.

Which brings me to the other game Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, I thought this had a really good mp experience, much better than Quake 4. It's just a shame it never took off and got the numbers playing. :(
