Drive a Zafira 1.6? Get 7 more mpg!

Had a look, the dyno graphs show power gains some would be proud of after spending £££ss on mods

They state a 4bhp power gain by using 99 on an i10, can this car even advance its timing?

This really does seem to be pie in the sky stuff to me, given that a car like an Evo shows limited gains on the Dyno when running higer rated fuels.

In conclusion this only proves how crap Tesco 95 is

You clearly have no clue as to what you are talking about, and have no clue about anything to do with UK petroleum products and distribution.

This article is actually worrying, it is completely pie in the sky, and down right misleading. It may be offline soon anyway, as it is being taken quite seriously in the industry.

Seems aload of crap to me. Keep changing the colour of the fuels on the graphs and a TT with 99 gains an extra 17bhp and an extra 6mpg.

2 things I noticed..

Test routes driven over the course of the test were measured to ensure similar proportions of road type driven and traffic conditions experienced were equal between the two fuel types and the extensive period of the test allowed for any variable to be minimised.

similar roads? why not use the same ones?

Mileage noted when low fuel warning light emitted

Fuel tank refilled with Tesco X Octane fuel

he only mentions when the light comes on, which as we know is hardly accurate, and nothing of how much fuel was required to refill the vehicle, which would give a better indication of economy.

Though to be fair, he does say it's consistently inaccurate ;)

oh, and this:

In conclusion this only proves how crap Tesco 95 is

:D

What sort of professional test would use 'when the light comes on'?

Surely the best way to do this test would have been to brim the tank, drive 200 miles over a SET ROUTE at the SAME TIME of day, then brim the tank and calculate MPG.

The first logo on the .pdf you can download is Thorney Motorsport. Isn't this company widely regarded as being somewhat less than scientific in it's approach to.. well... just about everything?

How? It's the same fuel as every other petrol station with 95. :/

No, it really isnt. I never use supermarket fuel, as even in my crappy clio I get noticeably fewer miles to the tank. With something like Shell 95 I get just over 400 miles to a tank, with Tesco or Asda I struggle to get 340. This is not just a one off, I've tried many times and I cant get a decent mileage from the supermarket stuff. There's a reason its cheap!

I've only used supermarket fuel in the 318iS lately and I'm getting ~400 to a tank, in fact I got LESS when I used Shell 95. So there we go, personal experience is a load of rubbish.

It's not exactly surprising is it, Tesco sponsor Thorney, in return he writes spurious articles saying how great their fuel is, this is the second one he has written.

What a load of utter rubbish. See my other post.

Total tosh, used this last week and it gave me less per tank than V-Power, i don't see shell running around saying you get epic amounts of MPGz more vs peasant fuel.

Did you only use one tank of it? As it would take quite a few to make a difference (if any) I would have thought.

I thought it was supposed to be VPower that they buy when it's possible to get it cheap, like the last 10% of the tanks at the storage spot?

I put £45 of the tesco 99 stuff in last weekend, and then overtook an Audi R8.

Clearly, the Audi was not using 99 octane.

:p:rolleyes:
