Ive heard of plenty of people that have had their steam accounts hacked or lost

Actually theres plenty of cases on the internet to look into if you wanted to with a simple google search.

That combined with the number of people who DONT get their accounts hacked.

You very rarely see people posting to say "Hey, my accounts not been hacked".

Ill start...

ME

Me

Also my three irl geek friends haven't been hacked

And my two online geek friends.

In fact, other than this forum, i don't know anyone that's had their account hacked

(touch wood)

My account has been compromised over 4 dozen times and each and every time it was Steam's fault.

...oh no wait, i'm not a completely brain dead idiot, so no, never.

It's really not, its point is to show that most people don't have their account compromised. You of all people should be taking note of this fact.

That still doesnt change the fact that you can have your steam account hacked or banned without any appropriate reason, and lose all of the money you have ever paid buying games on that account.

It does show that it's the user at fault when this does happen though. There's no way for the kind of people that steal accounts to just pull login details out of the air, they are made available due to user error.

Same here. Never had anything hacked. Steam, email, online bank account, WoW, nothing. No idea how people get hacked.

Just an example - In both Guildwars and Aion, NCsoft's customer service once had an error with their email support system, and were sending out password reset information to the wrong email addresses. Lots of Guild Wars players have had their accounts hacked and stolen, despite having never leaked or made their account information available in anyway.

Lots of people are comfortable to sit on their high chair, laugh, and say 'Its never happened to me, so you must have done something wrong', when in any community that I have been in for online games, lots of people have genuinely been getting hacked and losing accounts through no error of their own.

I am really unwilling to take that risk on one single account with all of my games. I cannot see anything likeable or good to using Steam, even though I have lots of games that I buy on offers on there, I would never want to have a brand new, full retail priced boxed game that requires that I have to play it through steam.
