marrying your cousin?

Ugh, we consider our first cousins brothers and sisters in our culture [punjabi sikhs].
You get me, it seems totally unatural to me and quite sickening!

I thought the jokes we made about Pakistanis marrying their cousins was just exagerations spread down through our families, but from the "facts" it appears it is greatly validated and not just limited to people of Pakistani desent.

(Also, love to my fellow Sikh :D)

I just don’t understand why people would do something like this in this day and age. Why has the government not outlaw this archaic practice?

Knocking your cousin up is a great way to show what a stable family unit you are and that you shouldn't be kicked out of the country.

Man, I was sure marrying your cousin was illegal, but I can't find any details on it now...

First cousins share 12.5% of their DNA. I thought you couldn't marry in this country if you were more than 10% consanguine, or something like that.

I have family that have married first cousins and their kids are perfectly normal and healthy...its not something that i would consider altho my dad had it in mind with one of his nieces but told him that hes off his rocker if he thinks im gonna marry any of my cousins....has absolutely FA to do with medical issues, its just not something that i would ever consider in all honesty.

Saying that i have a couple of cousins who are hot as hell...but damn my luck they are my cousins:p

Wouldn't even cross my mind. My cousins are like siblings to me.

I got a friend though who got married away at 18 to one of his cousins. No children yet..

your suppose to improve the human gene pool, not **** it up by shagging your cousin and having screwed up offspring

A bit off topic but don't you think the dispatches reporter looks a bit like a Pakistani Davina McCall...

...or do I need to go to bed?!

Errr no she is WAY hotter than Davina :D

I watched the dispatches and must admit it was very worrying, a lot of them were in complete denial of the scientific evidence :(
That said, it seemed quite a few of the younger generation pakistani's that were interviewed were very anti 1st cousin marriages, so hopefully this is something that will naturally fade out

About time a documentary was made on this subject, this is happening all over the country and has been for a long time.

Amazing that this it isn't illegal in this country.
