With new demanding games such as metro, which really push cards at high resolutions, what sort of fps would you be expecting with top end cards such as the GTX 480 (single or SLI)

I dont really want to purchase 3D vision if im getting below 60 fps, they say that the 3D vision halves your fps, has anyone got any expierence with top end cards using 3d vision on demanding games, what fps do you get?(sli or single)

so on a game like metro, to play on max settings in 3d, you would need like 2 480's to get a decent fps, thats insane!

A lot of the work can be reused between left and right eye, but it basically has to draw every frame twice at 60 frames a second.

Back in the mid nineties when everyone had CRT screens, TNT2 cards and were playing Quake 3 you could buy a pair of shutter glasses for £50 and play everything in 3d.

It's a fun effect, novelty mostly. It's not worth hundreds of pounds in LCD monitors and graphics cards tho.

yeah, i understand that its more of just a fun effect, and not so good for serious gaming, i just want it really for the expierence of being more involved in the game (being high will make this 10x better :D)

I just dont see the point in buying a 60hz monitor if im spending over a grand on a new computer, and if im getting a 120hz monitor it would be nice to know that i could use 3d vision, but it would bug me if i got poor performance (hates low fps)

well providing you didn't play at max settings it would be fine

and to play metro in 3d above 60fps per eye you'd need something like 4x 480's overclocked to 1.2GHz
