NFL Pre-Season

NFL Gamepass was awful for a while but has made great improvements I believe (they just couldn't cope with the demand) skys coverage s looking like a single 6 & 9 game on Sundays, all the Thursday games and all the post season. C5 still saying they wont have the late Sunday game and ESPN have MNF (welcome back post student night out tv) 2 seasons ago sky had games on red button which most of the time were crackers (NYG @ ARI springs to mind straight away)

AR81, agree on NFC East being a tough div, shame all 4 cannot go to the playoffs, and NE didn't make the 2008 playoff's (1st or 2nd team with a 10-6 record not to make it I think) AFC East is going to be tough this year if Sanchez starts to throw the ball (the NYJ D and ground game are stellar) Miami have been quietly rebuilding under Parcells and are making astute signings. Buffalo... well the least said the better.

As a complete wild card I would love to see San Diego make it all the way as they are a fantastic setup and team but they really are in the wrong conference

anyone else watching Hall Of Fame at the minute? So happy to finally see Russ Grimm on the pro football hall of fame list this year, well overdue and thoroughly deserved, what a superb player he was for us. What we would do to have a offensive guard like him on our roster now.

Also good to see Jerry Rice and Dick LeBeau both great players in their day. Suprised no QB's on the list this year, normally at least one every year.

Congrats super Hog Grimm

HTTR !

Only seen clips of the Hogs on Americas Game and NFL top 10s. Dick LeBeau I only know as a defensive coordinator. Jerry Rice everybody knows (took him a while considering Steve Young got there in 2005)

Can't wait for the start of the new season and in a few days the yearly Madden purchase!

I reckon my Pats will go far this year but I also wouldn't put it past the Saints having a repeat.

I would be well up for an NFL Fantasy league if someone is starting one.

btw Bengals fan here. Should be an interesting season one way or another with the TO and Ocho Show.

Are there any websites which help to understand how to talk about the game?

I mean, I know the majority of the rules. I enjoy watching the games when I can, and I know enough so I don't feel like I'm not sure what's happening :p

On 1st glance this looks pretty useful.

http://www.nfl.com/rulebook

But like yourself i pretty much watched about 4 or 5 games and learnt what was going on that way. But yes there is a lot to take in (in regards to rules) if you want to go beyond the basic understanding of the game.

Edit :

Thought i would add a little video to wet the apatites, Benson was a beast last season

Actually is it 6 years minimum between retirement and induction into the Hall Of Fame? Young got there in 05 after retiring in 99 (and we certainly wont see his like again) and Rice last played in 04 and is inducted in 2010. As for the average player only lasting 3 seasons I think it is safe to say that if you only last 3 seasons then dont expect a phone call in 6 years time (well maybe from nfl films if they are doing a draft bust special again)

Rice went to training camp with the Broncos in '05, that may well have delayed him going into the hall. 5 years is the minimum period before becoming eligible. Right about the 3 seasons though. I think one player who should have gone into the hall is Sterling Sharpe. One hell of a WR before Injury cruelly cut short his career. Certainly up there with Rice/Terrell Owens/Tim Brown/Cris Carter (the other three are sure to go in in the next couple of years with their numerous pro bowl appearances & 1,000+ career pass catches)

He deserves to go to the hall of fame just for having such a big mouthed brother (great TV though) and yeah cruel to have a hall of fame career cut off at the knees like that. I am not sure whether Owens or Moss will make it through to the HoF as they certainly have had problems with the league

We're in big trouble now with both Rice and Harvin potentially out for most of the season :( That with the loss of arguably our best RB from last year in Chester Taylor and were going to be in big poopoo. Time to step up AD and see if you can keep hold of that ball son!

Also got Toby Gerhart in the draft this year, he might see a few more snaps than normal.

Falcons fan here.

Personally I don't bother about pre-season games. Yes it's nice to have the NFL back but the games are pretty much meaningless. Every team just runs standard packages on offence and defence with absolutely no scheming. It is nice if your team wins but you shouldn't read to much into pre-season results.

Really hope all parties involved sort out the CBA before the end of this season to avoid the chance of a lockout next year. I also hope they agree to an 18 game regular season just so there is more NFL on TV. :D
