Hi All,

I've recently had a set of Creative S750 Gigaworks stop working on me. :( I can try to get the broken subwoofer repaired but I'm thinking that as they're four years old it might not be worthwhile. I have a couple of options:

1) Buy 7.1 amp and separate subwoofer, re-use Creative speakers ~£450

2) Buy Logitech Z-5500 £200

3) Wait for next model after Z-5500

I'm a bit reluctant to spend a lot of money investing in a separate system as it takes up a lot of space and I'm not sure if it'll be that much better than the Z-5500. I really like the look of the Z-5500 but they have been around for sometime and if Logitech are about to come out with a 7.1 alternative then I'd go for it. I'm not tempted by any of Creative's ~£100 7.1 offerings as I don't think they'll match either the S-750 or Z-5500. There are some rumours going around about a new Z-5500 replacement from Logitech but it doesn't seem to have gathered any momentum, except for the good price of the Z-5500 at the moment.
If anyone has any thoughts or opinions on any of the three options I'd really appreciate it. :)

Z5500's theyve been around for a long time and i dont think they will be replacing them any time soon, they wont break on you and if they do logitechs warrenty and customer service are second to none. They will send you a brand new set of Z5500's basically if anything is wrong, great company, great speaker system too, i had mine for many years before selling them to get an amp and bookshelf speaker setup.

z-5500 rock and logitech customer service even outside of warranty is 2nd to none.

2nd hand can be had for as little as £130.

However, i kept my eyes on ebay and managed to buy

Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 pair
Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 pair
Wharfedale Diamond 8 series centre speaker
Wharfedale Diamond 150 sub

for £35 collected

I then got an Onkyo508 av reciever for £85.

For £120 or even £500 this setup blow my z-5500's away. Don;t get me wrong I love my z-5500's and the new rig ended up on the tv as a surround system and I am still using my z-5500 on my pc.

Just one other thing, I found out one day thsat max volume on the z-5500 was not max and if you keep you finger on the up button it goes to +11 :D

An ornament 5m across the room then fell off the shelf ;)

I wouldn't wait for the next model as the z-5500's have been around for as long as I can remember. Sub went on mine and they replaced the entire set :)

Thanks for all the positive replies, I'm seeing if I can get the S750 sub repaired for under £40, if not I'll put it towards a replacement set of Z-5500s :D

I still have a set of the Z-680's (which the Z-5500's replaced) and they still sound pretty decent, so you would certainly get a few years out of a set of Z-5500's...

I had the z-680's myself but the front left channel went shortly after my warranty expired and the z-5500s replaced the z-5400s;)

If I had only known then how good Logitechs CS. was I would have phoned them and probably would've got an upgrade before binning them.

Great speakers although with their ever increasing price you are in seperate amp and speakers territory.

I have a brand new set of Z-5500's unboxed, never used if you're interested (I probably shouldn't say this in this forum) but yeah.

Noticed you're interest.

It can go to +22 ;)

Thread Hijack :p

I looked at the Z-5500's the other day and almost went for a set on sale for £200. Just taken the plunge and gone for a separates setup instead.. :)

complete with separate sub.

Hope I made the right choice but figured it was a better long term investment and I could always move it to the living room at a later date.
