Right,

The other half wants a change. She wants a new car. She's currently driving a MK5 Golf GTI.

We've been around and test drove a few Specs.
It looks like its going to be a 2.0 TDI Quattro in White which is going to cost around £30k with leathers and a few other extras (18"s).

Are they reliable cars?
Anything to look out for?

Also, not paying the extortionate amount Audi want for the SatNav unit. They can be had on the bay for 1/3 of the price!
Anyone retro-fitted one?

Cheers.

PS. Please dont make this thread into a "why a TT?" or "why not get a....". She's decided on a TT!

Mileage really.
Will be doing around 20/25k a year

The depreciation you will suffer putting 100,000 miles on a brand new TT in the space of 4 years is going to make the fuel economy thing look like nothing.

You might be better with a £20k 2.0TFSI instead.

I didn't find it cramped when inside, I just can't get in the things without smacking my head lol. I'm only 5'9 :(

Fox speaks the truth

Did i actually just say that?

Huge difference in real life economy apparently, I say apparently because I ordered one in January and I still haven't got it yet!

I've driven the petrol and it's nice to drive plenty of power and similar delivery to that of a Golf GTI, however fuel economy isn't great.

Drove the diesel and it's slower but not by much, and fuel economy is 'apparently' a lot better but I can't comment because I haven't really lived with one.

If I didn't have 9 points I might have ordered a TTS, but I do have 9 points and I managed to get a good deal so thats why I ordered!

FWIW: I ordered White, standard interior, 18'' Alloys, Multi Function Steering Wheel, Bluetooth and iPod Connectivity.

I wanted red leather but pushed the price up a lot!

The Diesels hold their value better. I've seen plenty of 2.0TSI on the forecourts but ive only come across 1 TDI and that's with us going to several Audi dealerships and that was a lot more expensive than the TSI's.

We will be ordering with this spec:

White, 19'' Alloys, Multi Function Steering Wheel, Leather.
£33k on the road price

Pretty much similar to Maz.

That is more likely due to two main reasons:

1) The TFSI has been out longer than the diesel.

2) No one bought the diesel in the first place..... (due to the initial cost and the fact that TFSI unit is a lot better than the TDI unit (PD or CR) for everything bar fuel economy).

Thats because most people dont want a TT TDI. It's like going to the beach in a hot bikini and a pair of wellington boots. The TT is a cool, funky sports Coupe not a diesel powered rep hack. It's also only been out a year.

It confuses me why you are bothered about it holding its value when you are about to buy a brand new one in a marmite colour and then put, if you keep it 4 years, 100,000 miles on it. Nothing is going to hold its value under those circumstances. You are going to crucify its value and cost yourself tens of thousands of pounds. Thats fine if you have cash to burn and you dont care - but if thats the case why handicap it with the taxi engine?

You can get reasonably new 2.0 TFSI's for under £20k. I guarantee these would loose less money than sticking carpet-salesman style mileage on a brand new one.

Honest question, why not buy a 1 year old example and let someone else take that first hit of depreciation?

Is it just for that "brand new" thing or can you not find a used one in the spec you want?

This subject has become a fixation with me, i for the life of me cant get my head round wanting to blow all that money in cold blood.

£33,000 for a car fitted with a 2 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine - the same engine commonly found in a Skoda for £15,000 - is just completely ridiculous.

He will argue that it doesnt matter to him as he can afford it. Which he very probably can, but then... if he can afford the thousands that will cost why the TDI version?

I have to agree with fox here, the difference in fuel won't equate to the 10k difference, you'll save on depreciation and it'll be a better drive. I personally have a problem putting savings towards fuel, but if you don't or its being financed then it does make sense.

I do however now have the image in my head of fox in a biniki and wellies :(

There are only 47 used TT Tdi in the uk according to Autotrader, and certainly for me the 59 and 10 plate cars are all within a £1000 of what I'm paying for a brand new one!

Also a big thing for me is that the car has to be VAT qualifying, which is a bit hit and miss for the used ones as I'd need to buy an ex demo and they're more expensive that my new one!
