Fair enough, I'd prefer the mondeo myself anyway. You're right that there's very little close to you, but don't be unwilling to travel and you'll find something - see my edit above
 
116 miles! That's further than to my gran in Dublin! But you're right that I could be looking further than I am, I'll have another look tomorrow, after I test drive this insignia. Just for the craic :)
 
Yes it's a reasonable difference, but it's 240 miles there and back. You could go to view it (or any car that sort of distance away) and again to pick it up and you've only lost a day of your time in total. This is a 4 grand, 2 year purchase - what are 2 half days in the grand scheme of things?

I know it's not a rare car so not normally worth travelling for, but if you're struggling to find a good one I'd sooner travel than compromise
 
Depends a lot on how good the two I'm seeing on Sunday are really, ATM I'd be quite happy for a cheaper lower spec that's in very good nick. I suppose I'll see when I drive them, may end up going further. I know you said the post 04 were better specced, how so? Apart from appearance? Trying to talk myself down as far as I can go price wise now!
 
There's very little about the facelift that improves specification inherently, apart from cruise on the LX IIRC, but going from a preface zetec to a facelift Ghia/titanium is a considerable step up in equipment level

Don't talk yourself down too far in price, it's a false economy and you might end up in another old corsa :)
 
I got to drive around in a BMW e90 M3 2009 when i was in Canada. And as far as I'am concerned it was the most comfortable car i have ever rode in. I know that car is a little pricey but I'am putting it forward not for you to possibly purchase but because its a BMW and for long drives comfort is an essential. So i assume its possible that most BMW cars are of the same standard, maybe not, but im just reviewing the possible. Also to add to this i got to have a small drive in another BMW a little older model, but still once again it was a really comfortable drive.

If an M3 is the most comfortable car you've ever been in then I can only assume you've spent your life in little crapboxes or serious sports cars.

M3's are many things but super comfortable long distance cruisers isn't one of them really.

Well the drive was 3 hours on a main high way. And i may have over exaggerated. But of all car i have been in it was the most comfortable and ive only ever been in a few other cars of this type. And it was an endurance car, so i suppose comfort wasn't really expected of it.
 
how odd. the sports are not the most comfortable (my wife moaned about the suspension on the cab we had for a few days and doesnt like being in mine), i would assume the M3 is less comfortable than that!
 
The M3 is firm to say the least, the Sport is ok really aslong as you don't have runflats on it, with them it's quite crashy really.
 
exactly. and firm doesnt mean comfortable!
unless this person is talking about the seat only, not actually driving or being in motion
 
Well I don't think firm necessarily means uncomfortable, but it does of course mean it isn't going to be a magic carpet ride, no silky smooth luxury cruiser at least. Not that it matters in the slightest anyway really :p
 
Well, drove an insignia Sri today, firm is not comfortable! Lovely drive though, extremely smooth for a big diesel, I would be happy with it. At least I can use it as a comparison for the older mondeos :)
 
You are going to compare a new sports version of a car against an older normal version of a different car?
 
Yup, hardly seems fair, does it :p the sports version was all trim, kept the suspension adjustment at normal. They sold all the lower trims during the week! If the mondeos only half as much of an improvement as the insignia I'll be happy :)
 
The former, but neither are the best for your money

The petrol isn't a facelift, the diesel is a cheap diesel (rule 1 of buying one of these, no cheap diesels) in poverty spec
 
Cheers, appreciate the advice! There's really not much above zetec within reasonable distance of me, so if it checks out I'll go with the petrol then. I'd love a ghia or titanium, but they're just not available! I'm not too worried, as long as its not a bad deal.
