Hi,

Currently have a 9500 GT and looking to upgrade to either a 460 / 465 or 470..

Will have about 200 - 250 to spend.

Do gaming COD (but not as much as I would like to ..mainly because my solid state had to be RMA'd and need to negotiate downtime with the wife that will co-incide with her not wanting to be on facebook) ....

What is the best to go for, I think my current hardware should support...but suggest sway..none of my environment has been overclocked..

Regards

Ray

I know you said Nvidia, but have you considered the 5850 that is on offer for £190 ?

I was looking @ the ATI ones..when they first came out..but a few websites say that the nvidia ones are a touch better..and have the 3D stuff on them.... but I know very little about the differences..(more concerned what I can and can not play on them)

so open to suggestions...I have had ATI and Nvidia cards and had no problems..this is the first time i will be spending this amount on a graphics card (my last tech refresh did not have budget for a graphics card)..so want to get the best I can..and will hopefully last me another 2-3 years :)

@ vectisitch

^^ Different architecture, ATI has always done high clocks AFAIK.

I think for your money i would go GTX470, but have a read up on the 5850, bit cooler, less power usage.

Mute point realy, I prefer performance over some extra heat and power usage, everyone to their own.

Hopefully heat should not be a problem the antec is fully fanned up (or how hot do the nvidia's get ..I thought some of the nvidia cards heat issue had been resolved?)

I would wait for 6870, even if your firmly in the green camp, If the current bench's are legit it looks like it spanks the 480 so prices should fall considerably on the 480.

460 or 470 as the 460 can be clocked to 5850 speeds (1gb version that is) if you don't mind the extra heat/power consumption/noise and price. Otherwise hold out for abit and see how the new ATi 6 series cards come out.

Infact i would go for a 460 1gb as it could easily get upto or past 470 speeds if overclocked. Plus they run well in SLI and aren't too expensive right now. It would leave you open to future choices when newer cards are released as you won't lose much money on a 460 since its still new and holds its value well.

I have the gtx 470 in sli and at idle the lower one is sitting at 37* @ 40% fan speed.

I think under full load with Kombuster it was getting to between 75-79* @ 80% fan (though i was more worried about the top card tbh :P )

They are very quiet at idle speeds, but are a bit noisy at 80% fan speed, but not unacceptable to me....just what your willing to put up with :)

Good air flow and a custom fan profile works wonders for temp control on a 470/480.

You got any more info on how to do that....

Airflow through the case looks pretty good..( 5 case fans + 2 ram fans + the water cooling..all running on medium setting) and all harddisks are running between 25 and 34 degrees ( althugh the SSD currently does not report a temperature..)
