Hello all,

Just bought 2*460's and now have them in SLI - I've just initially ran a Vantage Benchmark and got a score of 17800...

Having never had a SLI system before can any give me some guidance on is this right?

Also how do I check my SLI set is actually work (Reason I ask is because everything seemed to go very smoothly and I'm a bit suspicious about things that run smoothly! :D)

Thanks

Simon

seems abit of a low score, have u tryed running vantage on a single card and seeing what u get ?

i get about 19-20k on my single 480, or 22k when overclocked

What is in the rest of your system?

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses, yes that was my combined score, my actual scores are...

GPU 20466

CPU 13022

I'll post up what I've got tomorrow.

Thanks

Simon

i just run a test on mine.2 4870's xfired with i7 930 running at 4ghz.overall score was 19025 with gpu at 17651 and cpu at 24818.what sort of score would i get with 2 gtx460's in sli with my cpu?

Combined score doesn't matter if you're looking for the GPU performance only. The GPU score seems a bit low though, I'm getting over 18500 with an overclocked 5850, your CPU must be bottlenecking. On the other hand, an SLI 460 was suppose to be a little faster than a single 480, the latter scoring just over 18.5k in this benchmark at stock, so it's probably the overclocked card that dims a little of the shine of your setup. The actual score should be closer to 24k if there was no CPU bottlenecking.

My GPU score running Vantage (Performance Preset) with SLI 460's is
GPU 27294
Thats with 800 1600 2000 clocks.

Think your CPU may be holding you back a bit.
Check your PCIe speeds as well incase your running at 1X or 4X on one or more of your cards.

Edit:
I5 750 P55 UD4 PCIe 8X 8X
For the OP's benefit and the curious.

I compared the cards running in the P55 UD4 with them running in my ex58 UD3r.
There was almost no difference in frame rates, the i5 was slightly on top if anything.
8x slots have more than enough bandwidth for cards such as the 460.

isnt a oc gtx470 onpar with a gtx480,if i was you i would get another 470 and sli,it dosent make sense to buy 480

Morning all,

Again thanks for the replies :D

I've taken onboard what people have had to say and had a tinker with my PC... My initial test was run at stock CPU speeds, so since then I've OC'd my machine and run it again, with much better results...

My PC is now running at 3.6GHz & my Vantage scores are

GPU 23990

CPU 17098

Combined 21794 (on Performance setting)

I suppose now the question is do I push it that bit more or leave it as is - Nice and stable with load Temps at low sixties :)

Thanks Simon

You still didn't mention what cpu do you have, it's really obvious your CPU is bottlenecking and holding your GPUs down! with stock GTX460's you should get at least 22000

I get 28k wihout PPU, and 33k with PPU once everything is overclocked.

SLI / Crossfire arent a good idea if you dont have a CPU to back them up. an I5 or I7 clocked to at least 3.8 Ghz really helps to make the most of a dual GPU setup.

Hi,

Apologies all I have an i5 750 coupled with a P55 UD5 mobo, should be able to push it a bit further without to much issue (have a Hydro H70 on the CPU) would the extra 400mhz really make that much difference?

Ta

P55 has to split the pci lanes into x8 by x8 if I do recall correctly. X58 will give full pci bandwidth 16 speed on both lanes simultaneously. i7 is better for sli than i5 too.
