Hi all,

Help! Looking for a small upgrade to my 4 year old system. Don't want to spend any more than £400 - preferrably less.

To keep costs down the following components will be reused from the old system:

1) Antec Solo case
2) 600W Enermax Noisetaker SLi EG701AX
3) Nvidia Geforce 7950 GT (will be replaced later - when I have cash spare - probably for a GTX 460)
4) SB Live 5.1 soundcard

I want to build my system round the following:

1) AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1055T 2.80GHz
2) 2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
3) Motherboard
4) Memory
5) New fans
6) New DVD-RW

Not sure about memory & motherboard - any suggestions or comments!? What is the best spec that I can get for £400? Oh, and I am expecting this upgrade to last another 4 years.

Thanks!

"Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB"

Is there any compatibility issue with these drives and the new AMD chipsets or was that a silly rumour?

Nvidia Geforce 7950 GT (will be replaced later - when I have cash spare
purplemaestro,

are you doing any gaming atm using that GPU *or* could you get away with using an IGP? . . . If not gaming there are similar priced boards featuring onboard Radeon IGP's and would allow you to get that card sold off . . . just a thought? :)

There was a problem, however seems to be fixed now with the latest firmware/motherboard BIOSs as I recently built an 800 chipset PC with a Samsung F3 and everything installed fine.

Hi Big.Wayne,

Some gaming (football manager, paradox titles, Civ 5) - nothing too taxing though although I wouldn't want an IGP. To be honest the GTX 460 may be overkill but it all depends on the cash later on for that. I have an old X1800XT that I may sell off to raise funds...
