Book reveals The Stig's identity. Top Gear not happy.

I dunno how they lost in court... its no different from any other trade secret - I assume they made him sign a NDA...

Ruins the fun of the show even if it was a bit silly.

If he's been replaced I could see how an ongoing gagging clause could be seen as a restriction of trade and unenforceable, the fact we know now who the stig was doesn't take anything away from what he did at the time, and we don't know who the stig is now. I can't see why the BBC have kicked up such a fuss about this and given the publishers free publicity.

I doubt he was on a pittance, but I sympathise with him wanting to make some money. TG is a huge success story now and must be a massive money-maker. I still don't think he should have done it, though, it was a great running joke.

I hope TG do something funny and original next year.

If he's signed confidentiality agreements then he should abide by them.

I like 'The Stig' rather than the person beneath the helmet. I like that he has his own personality (i.e. when he follows the lines and goes directly in a direction rather than a quicker route). I just prefer that character.

I met 'The Stig' as a client some years ago & he certainly didn't mind sharing this information with a stranger, so it's no huge suprise that it's worked its way into the media.

I'm suprised it's taken this long if I'm honest :)

I say good luck to him trying to make money of "The Stig" brand now. This book and then.. ? Not that he is struggling or anything.

Don't mind that it's been revealed officially. With it being a faceless character it can easily be replaced, in my opinion :)

It was my understanding between the motoring press that the identity of the Stig was known but agreed to not be published...

ps3ud0

I know 2 others drivers who have Stig'd as well as Collins and there are others. It was to try and create a feel of consistency and to allow them to simply slot a hand into the car without worrying.

what did you design/build for him?

Remarkably short sighted from the person in question, because now, he wont have a job, as you can be damn sure he wont be working for top gear anymore.

He better hope he shifts a few hundred thousand copies to make up for his loss of future earnings.

I've heard VBH will be the next Stig, but they have to dub over the in car hot lap sound to get rid of her screaming like she's having an orgasm.

I would imagine the amount of publicity he has gained from this whole court case will lead to more job opportunities than before. Before: Ben Collins, Formula 3 driver no-one has heard of. Now: Ben Collins, formerly the Stig.
