Was going to get the MSI 470 because it had loads of games comming with it but ive read that its slightly different from the reference 470 somthing to do with the chokes or somthing ect...?, would an EK 470 block still fit on the card?.

No, it's the reference design, they claim to use higher quality PCB though (I don't trust them on this one). EK 470 should fit it without any problems.

Doesnt matter i was getting it somwhere els but as its gon up a tenner i will just go for the asus or POV, unless its worth £9.12 more?.

The only thing that doest fit Asus/MSI cards is the EK back plates because of the extra voltage chips. But the actual water block fits fine.

MSI is a reference design but the components are military standard so it is apparently better quality than other cards.

If your ever unsure what blocks from ek fit they have a component configurator on the online store part of their site.

I think the rule is pretty much, if you're watercooling, get the most bog standard card there is, as generally the more expensive cards offer nothing but a better cooler, or a non-reference design, making them incompatible.

Point Of View cards have a 3 year warranty, and the Zotacs have 5.

WRONG, The Back Plates Do Fit, go to their website and check.

NOO! I need to fit a backplate to my Asus which I am waiting for today. I thought it would fit?!

yeh the MSI 470 has extra chokes but they are clear of the full block area:
In terms of the 'Military part', what I read was the reference card comes with the same (same as MSI) high-quality solid state gear now, unlike years gone by, and MSI have literally only added these chokes. Guess if they were vital Nvidia would have em on!

MSI card top, note a few extra 'grey' things around the capcitor area.
Then look at these pics, the block should go on fine?

goes no where near em:)
I was gonna go for MSI for a perceived but not documented better overclocking ability, in the end I saved £10 on an Asus but now that difference is £5 cos of this week only offer haha

edit: according to EK's site, both Asus and MSI boards are reference and blocks AND backplates will fit:)

Seen as how OcUK sell the asus 480 with backplate pre fitted Im pretty sure the backplate will fit the 470
Also the length of warranty is invalid because as soon as you remove stock cooler warranty is void, just get cheapest reference design

The EK B/plate will fit a ASUS ENGTX470/2DI/1280MD5, but might not fit the V2 as it is not listed in EK's Compatability Checker.

Isn't the only difference with a V2 that it has an extra connector supplied with it? I think the PCB should be the same, can anyone confirm?

My bad i read the 480 backplate description instead of the 470 one.

CAUTION: Due to extra chips on ASUS 480GTX and MSI 480 GTX PCB design, EK-FC480 GTX Backplates are not compatible (with these cards) until next revision.

I have changed my mind about going with the MSI because ive found the asus one at £220 but will the EK block and backplate fit on the V2 because on the EK site it only says it fits the V1 and says nothing about the V2?.
