water cooling vs air

The majority of benchmarks I've seen (type Corsair H70 review into Google) show that the H70 fails to beat the Noctua NH-D14 at cooling. Given that the V10 has TEC/peltier cooling, I'd go out on a limb and say it's better than the H70 AND the Noctua. Not very scientific, I'll admit, but the H70 is still a very basic water cooling solution and despite the price tag, it's entry-level as far as water cooling on the whole goes. The V10 is the big bad ass of air cooling. ;)

Just beware though, the Noctua NH-D14 is big but the CM V10 is truly enormous. You will need a pretty monstrous case to fit it.

EDIT: I may come off a touch wrong there, the Noctua appears to be the better cooler in a number of 'lab' tests, though only by a couple of degrees. I've yet to see any evidence suggesting that the H70 cannot handle the same overclocks as what is widely regarded as the primo air cooler available today. The V10, in comparison, should provide you with lower temperatures still. If you're gunning for the lowest possible temperatures, I'd say go V10. If you're gunning for a target overclock, well I doubt you'd be able to push a CPU noticeably further with a V10 than you would with a Corsair H70.

Out of those 2 options the H70 is the one to get.

The Noctua would be cheaper, and offer the same performance, but you must use normal heatsink memory, not the high heatsink stuff.

Currently owning the H50 I would get the H70; the profile of this cooler is so much smaller and easier to deal with than a massive air cooler. I even placed the pull fan on the rear of my case with a finger guard so it took less space inside. I might one day get a full water system but this is definitely a neater solution vs air.

both are awful

the megahalem and d14 destroy them both

then there is custom water

a £100 custom water loop would be as good, if not better then both of those options

also. please dont call the h50 or h70 watercooling. it isnt

This. They're a copout, a failure at life, and pig ugly to boot.

For air cooling, it's gotta be the D14 IMO. The megahelms is good, but in every reviews I've seen the D14 beats it by a few degrees. Unfortunately, it is much, much larger, and can be a bit of a pain to get it to actually fit on your board without interfering with stuff.

In performance terms, quieter, and a few degrees lower temps.

But in terms of looks, well, look at it...
