Best AA Batteries?

Li-Ion/Po is a very different ballgame to NiMH.

But many people like myself use NiMH to recharge their Li_Ion/Po when on the move/away from power source. Plus like already mentioned by someone else the new Hybrid NiMH are extremely close to disposables. Sounds to me like people trying to make excuses and justify their lazy and selfish actions tbh!

Sounds like a recipe for diminishing returns, but I guess it makes sense if that's the way it has to be done.

By hybrid, I assume you mean the low self discharge ones. They are brilliant, and I have shedloads of them at home as they get used for everything.

I'm just not sure they are great for everything, things like torches being a particular concern.

Why on that 7dayshop.com does it say Ni-MH batteries are memory free yet if you don't let them drain before recharging it ends up buggering them up still?

I was looking at 7dayshop 2900mAh betteries and they're the same price as the 2100mAh batteries

Enloops or GP Recyko.

Don't bother with 7dayshop, you never really know what you're getting.

7Dayshop are pretty legit IMO, they've been around long enough and have a good reputation.

Everyone is suggesting rechargeables, but I'm honestly not sure how well they cope with high load requirements like torches.

Eneloops are great with high current draw - it's all I use in my AA flashlights.

I also have some of the 7dayshop LSD's so I could rscue the Eneloops from the kids toys!

I use GP Recyko in my Fenix L2D. Not the highest capacity but they can sit in the drawer unused for months and remain nearly fully charged, plus they can take 1000 charges. Ideal for a torch, basically. They have been very good in mine and have had a LOT of use.

I got them on eBay for what seemed like a reasonable price.

I need the batteries that can last the longest really, as I need enough battery life to last for up to a 7-10 hour bike ride, so 4-6 good high capacity AA batteries really but not costing the earth.

Anyone ever tried Vapex 2900mAh batteries? They are what I was using but they're knackered now?

Yep, they're absolute crap. I got them as quite a few people recommended them in a thread on here a while back and they don't last long at all.

I've had the best results with my Energizer 2500MAH batteries. I also use these in my LD20 and they last a lot longer than the Vapex 2900MAH batteries.

I have Eneloops as well and these are also great. Especially if you tend to only use a torch every now and again as they wont discharge over time.

That's what I use mine for. I charge up a few sets and stick them in my pocket.

On the highest setting no batteries will last 7-10 hours in an LD20. I think they're rated at 2 hours max on high. On the medium setting (105 lumen) I think its rated at 5 hours.

What I do on bike rides is take a set of spare batteries. Then I can quickly swap them over.

I just buy 40 packs of Duracell M3's

£15 delivered = win

Can't be bothered to recharge etc

Where did you get these?

Ive ordered some Sanyo Eneloops and have a uniross charger but wouldnt mind some normal batteries for when i cant be bothered re-charging

Willhub - My Quark AA 2 Turbo was posted today along with the Eneloops. Let me know how the L20 works out, it was my second choice of torch

I've got the older version (90lumes), I can ride on pitch black roads on a lower setting than that though. Got abit hairy one night using the Vapex batteries, brightness dipped quickly, 8 miles from home, I had to constantly shine it into the side of the road cause I could not see where I was going.

LD20 is awesome tho, I've used it on night rides before and it beats more expensive torches and also appears as bright as some torches with a higher Lumen.

I'll try the Energizer batteries then the Eneloops if I ever need to.

Does anyone know if using my Energizer charger is gonna damage batteries and is no good? It's what you'd call a "dumb charger" I think cause it charges for only a set time period.

Yes you need a charger with Delta-V Peak detection.

I know the 2900MAH batteries suck, but this is a decent charger. It has 4 independent channels, so you can charge just 1 battery at a time if you want.

You can also use it to discharge batteries, but as far as I am aware NI-MH batteries don't need to be discharged. I thought that was just NICADs.

I use battery powered tools and its always plastered all over the packaging that Ni-Mh don't suffer from the memory effect you get with Ni-cads.
