Noctua NH-D14 compatability

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you know if its possible to use this cooler with some Patriot Viper memory?

Gets me wondering though if the modules need to be less than 44mm why not trim heatspreaders down to below44mm. If I were buying one I'd give it a go, rather than spend extra cash on lower profile RAM.

I was thinking about doing that, but i was wondering first off how it would look and secondly if i'd damage the memory.

Have you already bought the ram?

Even if you do trim it without damaging the memory, you will have voided the warranty so any problems later on and you will have to buy new.

I think someone on the forums managed to fit the Noctua with Patriot Vipers.

According to the list the Viper II modules are compatible so there can't be much in it as they have fins too.

Hacking away at heat spreaders would invalidate warranties but that's the risk you'd need to decide on. Selling the modules and buying low profile ones is another, yet more expensive option.

Provided one removes any residue from the metal composite removal then all should be fine. The RAM does get quite warm though so total removal isn't an option really.

I replaced the patriot viper with Dominator ram instead.

£2 price increase for better ram.

That's a good point, I've heard some people have overcome memory incompatibilities by doing this. Wouldn't say it was guaranteed though, depends on your board layout of course. Getting low profile RAM to replace your current stuff shouldn't be difficult if you need to anyway, worth it for such a decent cooler.
