Well I wont be taking my hearing for granted again thats for sure.
friday night I decided I wanted to use earplugs so I could concentrate on some reading I was doing ( I have concentration issues).
took them out after an hour and It felt like I still had an ear plug In my right ear so I quickly looked at the ear plug, phew It was In one piece lol.

This was a very surreal and scary feeling having no hearing In one ear.
So this morning I phonned NHS direct (using the good ear lol).
they advised me I had probably pushed some wax to far down the ear and I should go the chemist and get an earwax removing solution. I did just that !
and 7 hours later I got my hearing back.

anyone else ever lost hearing to due to earwax related Issues?
Just glad I didnt need to go the Docs and get them syringed as I'm back In work Monday.

Ps: sympathies to people who are permantly deaf.

Yes, used to get blocked ears all the time when I was younger. Needed to get them syringed.

Losing senses permanantly is pretty much the worst thing I can think of.

Have to get mine syringed every year odd. Blocked ears drive me nuts. I have a small ear canal supposedly :P

I have to do this as well every other year or so due to small ear canals. It's more frequent if I'm doing lots of wood cutting or sanding in the garage etc.

OP, you'll probably have to end up getting your ear syringed - the wax hasn't suddenly disappeared, it's just moved so you can hear at the moment. Maybe start using some drops and go to the doctors and they can assess if it needs to be flushed out.

yeah not earwax, but about 10 years ago i was in holiday in gran canaria and got an ear infection in both ears due to the heat and the somewhat over enthusiastic use of chlorine in the hotel pool. i was stone deaf for 3 days and had to have needles in my backside. fun!

I lost the hearing in one ear on holiday with a wax build up. The swimming didn’t help and it got syringed in hospital.

Had problems with one of my ears during the January exams of my final year in Uni ... was very irritating at the time and made it very hard to concentrate.

One of my colleagues had ear wax issues affecting his hearing the other day and spent a couple of days going "what?" or "pardon?" all the time.

Yes I think your probably right but I will hang fire and see how it goes.
to be honest im not 100% convinced it was ear wax and it was trapped air and it finaly equalised and resolved itself.

I'm trying to overcome my fear of swords 'cause a man in a pirate suit stabbed me in the ear when I was 5, and then again when I was 30.

If it's any consolation getting your ears syringed isn't unpleasant and sometimes the difference coming out is amazing - you might not realise how much better your hearing was!

About 2 years ago I was on holiday in Gran Canaria and got an ear infection in my right ear (otitis externa) due to something in the sea. I didn't realise until a few days later when the wax had solidified and caused my canal to become inflamed. The doctor out there flushed it with water and there was a loud clang as the stuff fell into a small metal bowl. We both just looked at it and gave that sort of nervous laugh.

Pain like I had never felt and lack of hearing.

The end.

(true story!)

You're not kidding, I went deaf in one ear in Subway, literally one moment was fine, then it sounded like shhhhlup and it was gone.

When I got them syringed, I felt like I had super powers. I could hear stuff in the next town it felt like.

If you suddenly lose your hearing in one ear does it have any other effects such as losing your balance or dizziness?

*disclaimer* I'm not suddenly deaf in one ear or seeking medical advice, just curious. :)
