With all the threads about tyre choices, bad parking, 'spec me's, and crashes, here's an attempt at something a little more light hearted.

When was the last time you went for a drive for no other reason than to enjoy your car? I think we all occasionally become lost in the quest for more bhp, better grip etc that we fail to enjoy what we have!

I've just got back from a lovely journey from Southampton, along the waterfront at Lee-on-Solent, up north to Petersfield, along west to Winchester and back. The roads were pretty much empty, the weather ideal. It was superb burbling around in the SL, roof down, seeing what the world had to offer, lapping up the twisties, wafting through the towns and blasting along the straights.

So go on, share your experiences!

Oh, and to the girl in a short skirt outside the cinema in Winchester, caught by a rogue gust of wind at precisely the right moment, yes, I did see your knickers! :D

Not done it for about a month, if i don't go out on a Saturday night ill take a 10-20 mile drive, round some country lanes :)

To elaborate on the above, my idea of a Sunday drive consists of doing pretty much a round the Island trip, taking some of the best roads - Probably a total of about 70-80 miles. Best done very early on a Sunday morning, but last Sunday it was done at night.

MagicBoy - good man! A pity there aren't too many roads like that down south, even more of a pity the last time I drove the C&F was in a 525d auto BMW...

I believe they've SPECS'd up the Buxton end unfortunately. Hey ho, I'll just have to stick to 50 even round the hairpins :D

Not in ages :(
I think this thread will prove a point about how people rarely actually just to for a drive!

I went for a quick hour around the Yorkshire Dales on thursday. Suprising amount of coppers in Landrovers around but it dindn't matter - I was sticking to the speed limit and enjoying the sun and the countryside :)

dunno, I never really just 'go for a drive'..

However, if I'm going to get some milk or something late at night from a local shop about a mile away, I sometimes accidentally take the wrong way out of my drive and a 20mile detour :p

This as well... Although I often take a detour on the way home from work, last time being on Friday and had some good fun but it was only a couple of miles on top of my journey which makes it sound quite poor. I have to travel through so much crap before I get to decent roads where I live anyway.

I am going on a 2000+ mile driving holiday through Europe in a weeks time though.

I do it all the time in the MX5 :o Take an hour or two on a saturday or sunday morning, or late at night, and go for a blast. It's great, and it's what the car is for. The last time will have been Monday (although I had someone else with me :p )

Today actually, havn't driven for months and only in a Land Rover Discovery but was good to get behind a wheel and just drive around for the sake of it.

I go the "long way round" to places i want to go to, quite often if i'm in the mood for driving.

But probably go for an entirely random drive (ie. no destintation) once every couple of weeks?
