What cables come in the box?

Thinking of getting one but need to know if i need any other cables to connect to TV - its a pretty old one so doesnt have HDMI, only SCART, and the usual S video and yellow/white/red mono slots.

I have a DVI/VGA monitor and have already purchased a VGA cable so should be able to connect to monitor fine, just wanna see if I can connect to the TV as well.

THanks.

Comes with just the standard composite cables (red, white and yellow).

So i can just plug that straight in to TV and it will work video + sound? Basically like a PS2 did? (thats the last console i owned :p)

I have the 250gb slim and as above just comes with composite

HDMI cable can be had for a fiver with ease

It is pretty cheap of MS not to ship this new model with a decent hdmi cable though, don't you think?
I was really disappointed when I opened the box and found a crappy comp. cable. I already had an hdmi cable that I could use but that's not really the point; it should have shipped with one included as well as the comp cable.

Scart and the Red Yellow and white cable, are SD.

VGA, HDMI and the 360 component cable are HD.

VGA monitor will look a lot nicer than the SD resolutions

Would have helped if i'd actually read the opening post a little closer, Sorry.

Running the 360 on a SD screen, is okay for some games. But others suffer. Some of the games such as dead rising and Lost odyssey for instance. you suffer when it comes to reading the text, its cant be made out very well. I did have a 360 on a SDTV for quite a while, and i managed just fine with a wide selections of games.

But going from SD to HD with the 360 was like night and day. It was like a new lease of life for my 360 when i got my LG 32"

As above the proper Microsoft VGA cable to your monitor will be the best out of the two, for your SD TV probably best going with a proper SCART cable (i.e. not the Composite cable plugged into a SCART adaptor).
