I'm in the market for a pair of GTX 470's. After briefly considering buying 2 465's and flashing the BIOS, I laughed at myself at the thought of me doing anything remotely so risky and downright ballsy and went back to looking at 470's :D

I was wondering if there are any particularly good brands of 470's I should be looking at? I was eyeing up Zotac on the OCUK store :)

Don't think you can go far wrong with Asus at least, although the zotac does have 5 year warranty as opposed to Asus' 3 year.

Good to hear. I must admit I'm always fond of MSI (I use their MSI Afterburner software for my folding rigs).

Aww, Clarkson, you edited out MSI? Are they not a good brand then these days? I'll admit the last time I bought MSI, It was a GeForce 7xxx series.

I would go with the longer warranty, I find Zotac a good brand - the cooling is pretty good and will allow a reasonable overclock if you so wished.
Also, with all nvidia cards these days it's a good idea to set up your own fan profiles.

scotty365, what should I be looking at for a fan profile? I've not set up my own before. Is it just a temperature where the fan kicks in higher?

I bought the...

Zotac Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 AMP 1280MB (Overclockers don't stock it)

Last week, I had never overclock a graphics card before so looked on the forums here to see what others set there 470's to & got a 18% increase with no problems.

Had to get the AMP due to where my PC is I need the extra fans max temp is 76c @ 80% fan speed with 99% load.

Old cards hit 105c at stock speed

^ 105C, you joking? 92C in Crysis more like and 93C in Furmark

and for those who are ok with leaving the case open I got 72C 70% fan speed with 22C ambient, now at 80C 75% fan speed with 25C ambient with a 40% OC, this is in Crysis BTW

Just have my MSI GTX 750 at 700/1400 1680 > stock volt's 950v fan set at 30% playing BC2, temp's 60 > 62'c > room temp 22'c and fan noise is fairly quiet.

I'm looking at PNY and EVGA at the moment due to the fact they both offer lifetime warranty even when overclocked. I'm wondering what you guys think. PNY seems to beat EVGA in terms of pricing.
