Tracer Rounds.

They can be used as the last rounds in a magazine to remind the shooter he is nearly dry.

If they're the last rounds then he is dry :p

You should ask on a military forum, you'd get all the information you ever wanted and plenty you didn't too.

That was very interesting, thanks.

The loaded complete round is the same, but the actual bullet is significantly longer, and has no boat-tail if we're talking about Nato ball.

5.56mm tracer will not stabilise in a barrel with less than a 1 in 9" rifling rate for this reason.

1944 vintage Canadian made .303 tracer has only about a 50% light-up rate in 2010.

-1000 'marks' for being a pedantic get.

I just copy/pasted from a few rough sources around the net. If it was the finished article I would understand but please don't get sarcastic about a forum post.

you may be having your menstrual flow
but even so, that's no way to talk to a bro
so listen up homie, quit it right away
or i gon kick yo ass with no delay

They are awesome to see at night when doing fire and movement training. Seeing streaks going either side of you as you race forward certainly gets the heart rate up.

I'm trying to track down copyright for some pictures. They do make for a great fireworks show! Must be awesome/scary to see them for real.

Great video Aeley.

Thanks for the on topic answers guys, I appreciate the extra info!

Do the different colours actually signify anything in particular.

What he means is that sometimes a mag will be loaded with the last 5 rounds as tracers, meaning if he sees tracers he is running low and to get ready for a mag change.

As said earlier though, most subconciously count their rounds.
