Hello guys, I'm looking for your recommendations on non-alcoholic wines.

My wife has just become pregnant and she used to enjoy a glass with dinner, only now it's strictly tea total of course.

She's not struggling with the lack of alcohol in terms of withdrawal or anything (!), but she liked the taste of wine so I'm trying to help her by finding an acceptable substitute.

So far, everything we've tried from Tesco has been fairly revolting...very sweet and basically just sickly grape juice. I was just wondering if there is actually such thing as a decent alcohol-free wine.

I've never come across any alcohol free wine but I can't imagine there would be any good ones. Alcohol free beer tends to taste like sparkling mineral water (at best).

Similar situation. Missus is 12 weeks now. We got a bottle of non alcoholic white from Asda a few days ago and it was quite pleasant. Think it was their own brand/label of some sort.

What is this new age hippy **** about not eating this, not drinking that, while pregnant.
Don't understand it.
As long as you are not getting slaughtered every Friday night I'm dam sure a glass of wine with your meal now and again wont affect the little un.

It's all this nannying and ultra cleanliness that is making kids grow up with problems like Asthma and other allergic reactions IMO

Cool story, bro!

I think most people would say it's just not worth the risk.

I'd go out on a limb to say guzzling coffee, coke at work and eating fast food or pre packed food full of salt, sugar and e-numbers would do you just as much harm but no one bats an eyelid to those things

TBH I agree with this. The occasional glass of real wine isn't going to have any issue. A bottle a night on the other hand...

isn't it just called grape juice then?

Well fermented grape juice at least (read: moldy grape juice).:p

I once tried non-alcoholic wine and it tasted like ****. Just keep giving her grapes and mineral water instead.

How are there any French or eastern Europeans left if you are not allowed to have a drink whilst pregnant?

I am joking and have nothing constructive to add sorry... although non-alcoholic Cobra beer is one of the better (still not great) 0% lager and becks blue is ok too... better than normal becks. (not hard)

^ Agree about Becks Blue, very tasty.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them out (Shloer and Asda own). Maybe grape juice + min water is indeed the way to go...

Regarding should they / shouldn't they drink wine whilst pregnant, in the absence of any scientific research of my own, I think we'll have to listen to the experts on this one.

200,000 years of human evolution is all the scientific evidence I need.
I don't need some jumped up **** in a white coat with a few letters after his name to tell me a bit of common sense and moderation is required. :p

Firstly, congrats. :)

My missus became a bit of a Schloer addict last year when pregnant, although she would have the odd Guinness or a pear cider if we were out somewhere special (probably a couple a month). Are you getting a bigger car? ;)
