ATI Radeon replacement

Ok a quick question i hope

My uncles got an ATi Radeon HD3400 and is sick of the software problems hes getting with the catalyst drivers and wants to go back to an nvidia card.

What im looking to find out is what would be the Nvidia Equivelent of his current card.

He really doesnt need anything any more powerfull than the card he is using as long as the card is not a step back in performance than the one he is using.
Even if the Nvidia equivelent is a little better that wont matter to much.

He tipifies the traditional scot at times very deep and full pockets but very very short arms

Do you know what model in the 3400 series your Unlce has? I belive there is the 3430, 3450 and 3470. Either way the HD 3400 series is a few years old, you won't be able to find an exact Nvidia performance equivalent.

However, something like this should do the job nicely and uses newer tech.

however, please bear in mind that the gt 210 is a poor card for playing modern games and 1080p video. if you stretch the budget further then you can get more performance for your money - but if the 3400 series is sufficient then the gt 210 will be excellent.

i don't think so, according to this the GT 210 is based on the GT200 architecture which is a fair bit newer than the 8000 series. They also use the current 40nm manufacturing process.

Well i'll pitch both the GT210 and the 8400 GS to him as well as a new 8600 GT i found online for £42 which is passive, as he hates fan noise and ive got his system all but silent.

You could just run the card using the display driver and forget about the ccc.

I never use the ccc.

This passive HD 4350 is worth a look. Its only £30.54, here is a review.

Also, this passive HD 5450 just dropped in price to £38 - now that is a cracking deal!

Well my uncle has chosen the 8600 GT and luckily for him it has been reduced in price by £3 so its only £39.99 now.
