One guy I went to school with is gay. One guy I went to uni with came out earlier this year.

I agree. It's not likely that there have been any actual changes in distribution along the homo/hetero spectrum in the last few decades. Why would there have been?

To answer the OP's question: yes, I know about a dozen gay people and...nothing unusual. Same bills to pay, same stuff with relationships, same worries about job security, same having a few mates round for beers and a laugh, etc, etc. The only differences are those other people put on you.
