So seven (you missed Barcelona Rotty, I'm disappointed in you!) games, out of thirty (if you include the next two) altogether. That's a good, what, 85% or more that have been hosted in capital countries. Also considering that the USA, Canada and Australia are significantly bigger countries than Britain, I think my point gets to stand. ;)

23 out of 30 = 85%

are you in the Olympic Maths event ?

You do realise that a large majority of ALL the modern Olympic games have been based in the capital city of a country, don't you?

Don't let that affect the chip on your shoulder though.

apart from Antwerp, Montreal , Los Angeles ( twice ) , St Louis and Melbourne :p

and that's just the summer ones

ok the majority still have been but a large amount have not ;)

Sydney, Barcelona, Munich, Atlanta, Rio de Janeiro 2016.

Thats another 4, so not really ALL is it

So dont try and get smart with me

Ok, you know what? My initial stat was flawed, I'll admit. But take ONLY countries of a similar size as the UK, and what do you get? Antwerp, Munich and Barcelona. Munich is kind of a special case really, since I doubt Berlin was really possible in the middle of the cold war was it, and Bonn's a relatively tiny place. Barcelona is a city with near equal stature to Madrid, so I'd say that's fairly understandable, wouldn't you?

I'm not saying another city in the UK couldn't host it, though you evidently think I am. Personally I think Birmingham or Manchester, at the very least, would be equally good cities to hold it in. But I'm simply pointing out the fact that traditionally, the capital cities of smaller countries tend to be more likely to win hosting for a games.

Bearing in mind with that Manchester just hosted the commonwealth games so that takes that off the menu as well. That leaves Birmingham and obviously that's not an option either!:p

looking forward to the 100m, 200m, and that's about it.

Much rather have the football world cup here. Wouldn't cost half as much with all the stadia already here, maybe even make money out of it with all the franchising.

Might have both :). Hosting the Olympics will certainly boost our chances of hosting the WC due to all the new infrastructure and fresh experience.

Hoping I can get some track and field tickets when they go on sale... the 100m finals would be insane to see live :d. I'll deffo be making the effort to go see some of the events. Doubt the Olympics will ever be back in my life time so I don't want to miss this.

Not bothered really

It seems like world records are being broken all the time and not just at the Olympic games. It costs a fortune, building new things etc.. though it brings business so.

Won't really watch it apart from maybe like the swimming

I'd only really go to see a sporting event live if it was Arsenal playing. Otherwise I'm happy with seeing action on the tv.

I'd probably like to see it in full swing, should be amazing but don't think I'd want to stay.
