So as you can tell by my location, I've been living in Canada for awhile, is it just me or, when living abroad people seem to think they know what life in England is like from what they see in movies/comedy clubs?

For example, today, a friend of my missus really wind me up when she referred to England as a place with: "****ty food and rude people", now I felt like I should just let it go but where exactly does someone from Canada get off saying that? First of all, food here is just as **** if not worse since they pretty much eat the same thing we eat except more burgers and take away from restaurants owned by immigrants. Second of all, rude? The british? I've lived in Holland, Portugal, England and Canada and I have traveled to the US, France, Italy, Spain, etc. The English are BY FAR the politest and most subtle people I've ever met.

I don't know, this is just a rant thread, it really grinds my gears when people pull stuff out of their arse and think their correct.

Oh I forgot, another thing I get it here regularly is how bad the weather is in England, which is funny because you know, Canada has such nice warm weather and it never rains or snows here, am i right? =\

Eh

No different from British opinions on Americans is it? All based on tv and film.

Depends where in Britain you are wrt being rude. if you're somewhere with lots of British people then people are generally polite. If you go to somewhere more... multicultural... like London then more people are rude. Tourist tend to visit London rather than Stoke, hence the impression that they get.

Anyone want to tell me what thread is all aboot?

Haha, I guess re-reading my post I should "relax" a lil, but, when you're away from home you become even more patriotic then normal because you miss it. So comments like these can make you snap. Specially if their idiotic or hypocritical :D
