Catalyst updates through steam now!

Stop kidding yourself - their drivers suck, end of.

I will just give you one example, I have an 120hz monitor and in order to get scaling to work properly at resolutions other than widescreen, I have to switch to a lower resolution than native, change the scaling settings on the ATI CCC, then change back to native whereby the settings appear to go back to default but in fact arent. Because at native res the options are blanked out.

My point actually was that nVidia drivers equally suck.
Look at nvidia and not only do their drivers have no such problems but they even allow you to create your own resolutions with associated refresh rates and alter the timings etc. And have done so for a very long time. With ATI I have to create resolution by editing the registry i.e. SUCKS.
Having a border on each side implies the games aren't running at native resolution and nVidia scaling is turned off.

Also its unnecessary to flame and use stupid abbreviations like "PEBKAC". Im not exactly insulting your mother. Personally I think ATI drivers suck, that doesnt make me stupid or a "PEBKAC".
I didn't call you stupid, but a lot of "driver" problems aren't actually driver problems (nVidia or ATi).
I mentioned the 8800gt re-release because I would have bought a nvidia gfx card if they would stop doing that and release something competitive price/performance wise with the ATI 5770.

Wasn't questioning that.

Also if you are just updating gfx drivers without uninstalling properly you are doing it wrong to the majority of people.
And you wonder why I said PEBKAC? You're doing it wrong, uninstalling, rebooting and using driver cleaner is wrong and causes more problems.

yeah saw that but most enthusiasts use drivercleaner and avoid certain releases. still good for many people.

And most of these people whinge about drivers not working properly. Driver cleaner is obsolete for anything other than XP.

As I said up there ^^, you don't need a driver cleaner. Just install over the top, or use the built in uninstaller.

I've been installing over the top for years with very little problems. Both Nvidia and ATI.

On a couple of occasions I've encountered driver related problems, and have fixed them with programs like driver cleaner. I guess that's why some people use them as standard: they think that it's going to prevent any problems occurring in the first place. The problem with doing that, is these programs aren't infallible, and can cause problems as well as fixing them.

lol, just had a pop up saying one of my steam friends was 'Now playing AMD Windows 7 update' or some such. :)

If you check under the Steam menu there is a 'Update AMD video drivers...' option.

It downloaded 115MB, so I guess it does the full o/s package.

It says check for video driver updates, so I guess Nvidia may sign up for it too.

You have to manually do it. It is in the settings top left.

Well it just updated mine without a hitch. Pretty simple really.
