How Amazing Is Ricky Gervias!!!!!

Just like every comedian, he is only funny if you 'get it', i cant see how a lot of comedians are found funny, personally i think Gervais is very funny.

I'm with Trentlad, I think the Gervais character is hilarious and the characters he has created along the way are brilliant.
I even watched The Invention Of Lying 3 times.

Nice!

Talk about divided opinions, from utter w*** to absolute genius. I think one of the lads hit the nail on the head about needing to 'get' his humor.

I'm honestly not disappointed by the responses, most probably because I titled it incorrectly for the threads actual purpose but more the fact that you will get a difference of opinion and only a fool wouldn't expect it.

It's things like this that make it pretty clear that people don't get him. There's no way a person who let it all go to his head could ever write anything like these:

Or how about this celebrity reality check!!!

Trentlad you make me laugh - I think it's you that doesn't get Gervais.
He wrote that for a character he plays in Extras - he doesn't play himself in Extras.
Yeah, it's an excellent scene but wrote for a character.

I'm a massive Gervais fan and he is up his own bottom now.
He has a right to be there and I still enjoy everything he does.

I think if people were watching the 11 o clock show now and hed never made it this big, then most of the naysayers on here would be rating him quite highly

I think people just say hes crap now that hes famous

Love Ricky Gervais! I must have listened to the podcasts 2-3 times each.

Enjoy pretty much everything he's done. Karl Pilkington has his own show starting 23rd September on Sky1, should be pretty funny.

The Office is still up there as one of the best comedies, on par with I'm Alan Partridge.

Extras was very decent, not brilliant but good nonetheless.

His stand-up started well and has fizzled out somewhat. The invention of lying was dire.

However, still ****ing hilarious in my book.

Like his stand ups. Didnt care for either TV program. Not bothered with the films although the invention of lying is one I wouldnt mind seeing.

Its mad how 2 comedians that started of on that little show on channel 4 have made it so big.

I know what you mean but I still think the ability to write something like that takes a lot more than simply putting words into a character. I think it clearly shows that he recognises the perils of fame and the disgusting boundries that people are willing to cross just to become famous.

It's almost as if they had large quantities of talent on their side, which most of the people posting in this thread (who barely have enough between them to dress themselves of a morning) are blind to.

Definitely but it doesn't stop him from doing it because it's expected.

i didnt like the office and after 5mins of ricky gervias i have had enough
same goes for lee evans, all he does is pull stupid faces and funny walks, no need to watch him more than once as he is always the same

In what ways is he up his own arse? I mean that genuinely as a question because i've not read or seen anything that leads me to that conclusion
