Its something I've always wanted to do, and find myself contemplating a couple.

One is a 5 character, which does a good job of representing the little one's name - perhaps an investment for her in years to come, or even for her to use - I can't imagine 5 digits being quite so cheap in 18 years time. £500, does a great job of hiding a cars age, too.

Second is a 6 character and the closest I can find the represents my name, but its only £250 - a nice novelty, I thought.

So is it something you'd consider? £750 to do both cars seems more than reasonable, and one may even be somewhat of an investment?

is this to go on the ST or on the new vehicle that you planning on?
how much does retention cost?

Yes, I want to choose a random letter and a random number, just so I can have the last 3 characters spell my initials. It will look mega.

(no)

It won't be going on the ST.

No idea what retention costs, but not sure of the relevance, as both would be on a car.

Tim, do you remember Cory's? He Has F1 COR now :D

I like personalised plates when they aren't stupid. I'd love something with "SAM / S4M etc" or my initials SM but they are ££££ (cheapest is £3745). :(

Edit: I can get XX%% SAM for £999. XX%% is as my existing plate. :( -> :) but still a lot of money. And if I upgraded to a newer car in future, the plate would make the car seem older.

Good idea, certainly the 5 character ones. The less digits the better, the more digits the less like a personal plate it looks.

if its a dateless plate then it can be considered as an investment, if its a dated plate, then dont look into it as an investment.

If you dont know the difference then i consider you do some more research.

Yea, dated plates like S1 NGH or K1 NGS will never be considered an investment.

Rather sadly, I was seriously contemplating a couple of years ago about buying one which was S18 PAP.

Basically my gaming clans tag <S18> and my shortened online gaming name. :o

It was only £250.00. Sold now. Thank god.

I said "don't look into it as an investment", because although less than 1% of them can be investments, they have all been sold by now, therefore don't go into them thinking your going to make money in the future, if you do make money its a bonus but not a certainty.

Whereas in 100% of occasions dateless plates can be seen as an investment as they always go up in value, so long as you bought them at market value and weren't overpriced to begin with.

I paid £500 for my 5 character plate, but I chose one that spelt out a word.. sort of. I love mine and think it's worth the £500 :)

I once saw a plate that read V4 GOT...faggot?

All plates are technically dated, surely?

The investment aspect is barely even a consideration, a nice touch for the little one when she's older, whilst serving the purpose of a private plate in the mean time.

I wish someone had bought me M1KEH when I was young :D

they may be dated for when they were first issued. but there is a huge difference in value between the average dated plated and the average dateless plate, like i say you need to do more research. chances are both plates you are looking at will never ever gain money, only lose it, so dont look at them as investments unless they are dateless.

So what

I bought GU ** as a gift for my wifes parents. I feel it makes the car look really smart and I think its worth a good 2k over what I paid for it at the DVLA auction.

how much did you pay? im assuming ** = 2 numbers. if it does i would assume its worth at least £10K

Yep its 2 numbers, I cant quite remember how much I paid (I have had a lot to drink lol) but we got it at a bargain price as people are not buying plates at the auctions so much at the moment due the financial climate. I think it was around 5k inc fees and VAT.

if I can afford it I want to bid on GP 86 for my wife at the next auction as she is going to be a GP.
