It's 30 for a reason...

All cars should have V8's.

If they sound more aggresive people wont step in front of them :)

This does not work with HGV's - which are large & sound very agressive - as the berk who walked infront of me this morning in Coalville proved!

No, stick to 30 and pay attention and maybe there wouldn't be the ****ing great big black lines ACROSS the pedestrian crossing on my road.

Drivers prove time and again that they can't be trusted to stick to 30 because 'in their opinion it's safe to go faster' so we end up with traffic calming measures.

Anyway, it's not just about pedestrian safety. 30 is a sensible speed that keeps the noise down in town, allows people to cross the road without having to run and allows other cars to pull out without traffic closing on them at 45mph. It's quite simple. Why don't you people get it?

I agree with you.

However on some roads in certain places 30s are not required because 40 was fine enough...

I can't remember the exact statistic but something like 4 people died on this 40 (now 30) road in 10 years, with one of them being this silly old fool.

My opinion on that particular road the 30 limit was a knee jerk reaction by the council...

not really :O im scared of HGV's everytime im crossing street ill let it pass first no way am i jumping in front of one :O

How do they gather these statistics? The only person who knows for sure how fast the car was travelling (unless he had a speed gun pointed at him at that exact moment) is the driver. And the driver after an accident is always going to understate how fast he was going.
