Mafia II Thread

It was an alright game, fun to play for a bit. The ending however, was absolutely terrible in my opinion, as well as the fact that you can't carry on after it ends.

They could have included better cars though.

Edit: Turns out they cut a car out of the game that was meant to be a Ferrari. Erm, why?

Just completed it, liked the game but ending was really bad. i didnt even think it could be the end. I guess there keeping it open for the DLC and maybe Mafia 3

i'm surprised people say it's a 9 hour game as it took me 16 hours to complete and i found i did almost all missions without any struggle and that was on hard with car set to simulation, but on pc.

how easy did people find getting away from the cops? i just loaded up a random level to have a good chase away from cops and i never once found it hard to get away, i would literally have to go half speed and in a slow car so they could keep up but still they'd crash and lose me. i remember in mafia 1 often the only way to get away was to know all the short cuts, back alleys etc

I like that it's easy to get away from the cops, having said that, I've still been caught a couple of times. No problem though, gotta love that bribe option :D

I've been on 9 hours now, and up to chapter 12. Still really enjoying the game, hope they bring out Mafia 3.

snip (from the big rant)
I fully agree.

You also never find out more about his dad after the paying-back-the-loan-shark mission.

I finished the game at about 68% - Where has the other 32% gone as there is nothing else to do!

I skipped the credits - The last scene I saw was Vito and the old bloke in the car after the observatory mission - Did I miss any cutscenes by skipping the credits?

The story was good, but ended poorly. The city was big enough but had nothing in it and overall the original mafia urinates all over it.

Far too short, too linear and a big letdown tbh. I was REALLY looking forward to this game.

Finished this last night. Great game with a good story. A bit short, and not enough opportunity given to explore the whole city (in terms of missions), and the ending was a little abrupt, but still thoroughly enjoyed it :)

Mafia 1 still the better game though.

Completely agree also.

Completed it today took about 11hours on Hard. I did like the ending though myself.

Well iv finished it, the ending was annoying... I liked it in the sense it was really like a mafia film but it was far far to abrupt and pretty much like the end of hl2, so wide open that we're going to be paying £30 for the next 10 hours of the story...

Also the dlc was very very average, fun but so pointless. Definitely not a game ill be hanging on to for ever (mainly as i assume it'll be cheap when the next dlc is out or something)

Don't really think I'll get the DLC to be fair, Just out of principle. The only DLC I've paid for to date is for L4D2 just for mutation mode.

burrowed this off my brother. I'm not really a fan of open sand box games but because its linear and short and I didnt pay for it I'm really enjoying it. Would pay for it but for a play through its great

Kinda like GTA but without the side missions. Big world but nothing to do apart from the main story. The story is decent though.

completed it a couple of days ago and its a 9/10 game for me as a fan of the first but id say only 7.5/10 if you never played the first, very linear with little to nothing else to do other then collect magazines/posters which i think would require a lot of time or a guide.

i was happy i purchased it but dissapointed i didnt wait as i dont think this will hold its value for too long and will be <20 preowned very soon as its good but very short and didnt give me any reason to hold onto it for replayablity.

Going to trade this in this week. Ended up being far too linear and felt like a half finished game.

Eating and drinking had barely any bearing on the game, even though they went to the effort of having places to eat. Light switches, why can you turn them on and off, what do they add to the game? Police who give up the chase far too easily. Guns that you don't need to buy to progress. Lack of Car variety. Why do you have gas tanks that need refilling? I refilled once in the whole game. The list goes on...

from your post i would guess you never played mafia 1? the reason i'd say those features are there is because mafia 1 had them (in a time when having them was groundbreaking) so they kind of had to keep them, though they did nothing with them. would have been nice to have a shoot out in you flat and you can turn the lights off to stop them being able to see you

I haven't played the 1st one!!! But I agree with your last point. I am fine with all these little bits being in the game, as long as they are utilised in missions (even in 1 mission each would have been good). Lights, the Empty Gas tank could easily have been incorporated into missions.
