All over the world...
Right have been ordered to get myself a gaming headset:p....too much late night gaming is annoying my family who are trying to sleep.

So ive narrowed it down to either the Turtle beach X41 headset or the Astro A40 headset....i prefer the X41s as they are wireless and the A40s arent??.

Anyone who has used both give me any opinions?? ie which one is the better one out of them.

Cheers

Astro A40s.

I can't say enough nice things about them. The build quality is amazing, as are the sound quality and customer support I've had. :)

Also... According the comparison on the turtle beach site. The X41 is market as not compatible with PS3 or PC (which seems odd  ), and apparently the voice/game volumes can't be controlled independently.

Cheers mate...i do like the A40s but the only thing stopping me from buying them is the fact that they arent wireless:(...would much prefer to have wireless although reading around it seems the X41s suffer from hissing etc.

I take it the A40s need the mixamp, which is another £100 on top...ill only be using it with my 360 as it is so not concerned about the PC or PS3 compatibility.

i suppose i could hang fire till the Razer headset comes out but god knows when thats out and whether they are any good or not.

+1 for the Astro a40, tired both and they are better in almost every way.

Although I have just got them and have quite a bit of crackle in the left ear when explosions or deep sounds is that because its faulty or does yours do it too?
Already contacted them about it.

The Mixamp is what sets them apart, it's well worth the money. To be frank, I think if you tried a pair, you'd quickly not mind about them not being wireless. :p

While I'm sure the Razer headset won't be bad, it'll have to be superb to outclass the Astro set.

Out of all the stuff I've bought for my Xbox, I'm easily most pleased with the A40s. :)

Mine have no crackle whatsoever, but If you receive the same support I have from them, I'm sure they'll sort you out. :)

Turn the ingame volume down

I have noticed a few games have different level outputs and have to adjust the ingame volume to stop crackles and the like (an easy test if you have both these games set them up for MW2 then load prince of persia (the 08 version) It is so much louder god knows why) most games have ingame volume set to 100% as default

I wouldn't get wireless when I would be using them for hours at a time (with controllers being the exception, since they have a low power draw). There would be nothing more annoying then having to stop playing just because it's ran out of power.

Cheers mate i guess its the A40s then...the X41s look nice and are wireless but seems like a lot of people have issues with them.

Now just to find a good decent price for them as im loathed to pay close to £200 for them with the mixamp.

I think you'll struggle to get it much cheaper that the Astro site tbh, they don't officially distribute through other sources, so you'll either be looking at second hand sets or marked up ones. :(

you should get the turtle beach X41 :)

Persuasive argument.

Yep seems to be the case...although ive found £199 with the mixamp on a website...not sure if i can link to it as OCUK also sell gaming headsets now but a bit of googling helped and avforums as well.

Anyhow have placed my order for it so should get it next week sometime...at least that will keep my family happy when im gaming late at night:p

I had the exact same problem with 3, yes 3 headsets that I had gotten with my A40's (2 replacements). In the end I just got my money back, with the supplier totally dumbfounded as to what the problem was with them. I think there is a dodgy batch of these going around, because one of me mates has the exact same problem with his aswell.

Can't fault them with sound quality, absolutely fantastic but the quality control on these things leaves a lot to be desired.
