Good Old Games has shut down

wow, I actually just bought cannon fodder of them yesterday  thankfully I downloaded it straight away.

Pretty shocking news. It was a great service, maybe a tad expensive for some stuff, but still very good value for old games guaranteed to work 'outofthebox' with vitsa/win7 and no DRM as well.

lol BACKLASH tastic if so
liked GOG but I think a lot of their games where overpriced (could be found in bargin bins for half the cost on GOG) but I've had a few things from their site since it started (bought a game the day it opened, was unable to download it properly for ages tho!)

Is/was my favorite Digital Distro site along with Steam. Really liked the layout and just everything about it. Hope they clear things up soon. :(

Any other DD service could have done it, Valve for example being a private company could do it anonymously but this isn't their strategy, if they intended to add old games they would simply go to the publisher and get deals done. As could any other DD Service.

This seems to point at another company or maybe another publisher attempting it. Remember CD Projekt has other assets such as The Witcher which could have been the target.

Damn, hope they don't, they had one of my favourite games, Knights and Merchants on there, I liked being able to download it when I pleased :(

UPDATE 20.09.2010
First of all, we apologize everyone for the whole situation and closing GOG.com. We do understand the timing for taking down the site caused confusion and many users didn't manage to download all their games. Unfortunately we had to close the service due to business and technical reasons.

At the same time we guarantee that every user who bought any game on GOG.com will be able to download all their games with bonus materials, DRM-free and as many times as they need starting this Thursday.

The official statement from GOG.com's management concerning the ongoing events is planned on Wednesday. If you want to receive further information about GOG.com, please send an email to [email protected] if you're a media representative or to [email protected] if you're a user without a GOG account.

Blatantly coming out of beta I reckon.
