pretty much the rest of the place is black at night.

Back on XP I used to have a background that was the earth at day & night. It was constantly updating and had the band of night-time moving in real time. It also could overlay clouds (obviously delayed a few hours) from radar.

Can't remember what it was called though

It was like http://www.unitedearth4peace.org/files/earth_day_night.jpg (but a more accurate arc than line) and was constantly updating in real time with where was day and where was night. It would then overlay clouds if you ticked the option.

I love the one of London at night. It's amazing how well defined the M25 is around the city. You can clearly see the Thames in the East End as well
